It looked painful to watch… seeing a senior citizen Ali get smacked a bit but I highly, HIGHLY doubt it’s anything Ali wasn’t used to he was a HW champion rolling with Larry Holmes as his chief sparring partner, fought Frazier, Shavers and Foreman what Hearns was landing would’ve barely been a blip. I wonder if Ali went to Kronk much? Toney and Ali sparred (played around) at least once.

    Feathers?

    Certainly, you jest.

Hearns nails you and you fall, no shame in that......

It was not an exhibition match. It was supposed to be light sparring during media day in December 1981 the week of the Ali-Berbick fight.

They were in the Bahamas. Hearns was fighting on the undercard against Ernie Singletary. It was three months after the first Leonard-Hearns fight, and Hearns was coming off his first loss, and tried to make a point by teeing off on Ali.

Bad form on Hearns' part, really. Ali never went hard in sparring, certainly not when he was old. Hearns cracked him hard, but Ali didn't fight back.

Hearns was renowned for being a monster in sparring, and he was not shy about mixing it up with world class heavyweights.

    Really?
    You actually believe that?
If so I own half of seven mile bridge that goes into the Keys.
I'll sell you half of what I own for cheap.
Simply a deal you can't refuse.

But all joking aside. That sparring video demonstrates the overwhelming size advantage Hearns had most of his career from welterweight through Lt. Heavy.
And what a freak of nature he truly was.
Here he is sparring Ali. And he doesn't look much smaller than he was.
Ali was 6'3 probably between 225 - 240 at this point of his career?

Muhammad Ali was 236 pounds for the Berbick fight (which took place a few days later). Hearns weighed 155 on the undercard.

Ali had an 81-pound weight advantage here.

    That's exactly my point.
Hearns didn't look that much smaller than Ali.
    81 pound difference? Wow.

You’d know best, I respect the hell out of you so what do you think? Do you think Hearns or another 160lber give or take sized guy with pop could hurt durable HWs and we just don’t see it because those weight classes don’t mix it up much outside the gym?

    Thank you for your respect.

If you can catch the heavyweight when he wasn't expecting any incoming shots, than yes. But then again who do you consider to be a durable Heavyweight?
