Especially since both Matthysse and Provodnikov were extremely exciting fighters. Provodnikov was in the 2013 fight of the year against Tim Bradley, while Matthysse was in 2014 against John Molina. So it was obvious why we all though this fight was be awesome and kick ass. Now the fight itself wasn't that great. It certainly was exciting, just that Matthysse opted to box instead of slug, and we got a clear victory for him. Nonetheless, the fight was memorable and both guys always gave it there all. Which is, at the end of the day, the most important thing.
So apparently Ol'Ruslan is making a comeback this year! He will fight on June 7th in Russia. This content is protected
This was a highly anticipated fight for me,like for weeks. Sure it wasnt what we thought it was gonna be but still a very fun night.
He should cash in on the fairly open BKB landscape like Trout did instead of making a serious boxing comeback.
Remembered that fight fondly, although the fight was more one sided upon rewatch. Provodnikov put a valiant effort but the fight was mostly controlled by Matthysse who boxed more in range and landed more combinations although there were occasional moments where Provodnikov landed a good shot but barely had Matthysse in trouble. I was impressed how Provodnikov was able to absorb Matthysses punches but overall I had Matthysse winning by a clear margin. Not sure why Harold Lederman scored it a draw.
