Monzon wins an extremely convincing unanimous decision, to the point that i don't think anyone would want a rematch

 

Rodrigo Valdez and Nino Benvenuti twice, remember that.

 

GGG is bigger than Monzon, he rehydrates to like 170 on top of having some of the best ring cutting skills and forward pressure of the modern era. He should be able to break Monzon down, Monzon never had to deal with anything like that

I like Monzon. He tangoed with a lot of exceptional boxers. Never stopped in a hundred bouts and was a solid 15 round fighter.

 

Emile Griffith too

 

Monzon had an iron chin and his outboxing and jabbing can control the ring like a sandbox game.
Maybe his shots could scare Monzon at some points in the fight but it's impossible to catch a man like that.

Didn't think Monzon was smaller than GGG, that came as a surprise, we see different outcomes buddy, personally I don't think any MW in history is capable of breaking Monzon down, just writing it feels strange, given that most, if not all champions believe they are unbeatable, Carlos carried that to the extreme, he was a monarch over all he surveyed, his manager Brusa said he had ice in his veins, he had long arms not unlike steel cables, and he swung them to good effect, once the bell went he was all business, he face set in an Inca mask, hinting at his ancestry, no tassels on boots, no fancy shorts, that wasn't his scene, but hurting opponents was, hard accurate punches would be delivered in fashion, not fast but with long lasting effect, he was a distance fighter if ever there was one, he could at times be a tad lazy, seemingly disinterested, but that was because the pretender was under control, when the fight was close, or even if he was behind, he would step up the pace, the shots were a little quicker, more powerful, the gumshield would bear the brunt, he was impervious to punishment he never cut, apart from the first Valdez fight, I have never seen his face marked, he was a colossus, break Monzon down !!!! I don't think so.

I can respect it, though i will disagree that GGG and Monzon are the same size. GGG fights with rehydration, Monzon fought same day weigh ins and had a very skinny physique while only being an inch taller than GGG. I dont think Monzon ever faced quite the combination of size, skill and pressure that GGG brings; so I would hesitate to pick him, though Monzon is for sure capable of winning. Id never count Monzon out entirely.

 

GGG's a bit of a t-rex, Monzon had 6" of reach on him and most assuredly knows how to use size and range to his adavantage. You ain't stopping him of carving him up in close either. He'd outpoint GGG comfortably IMO.

 

i second this. GGG will likely stun him once or twice but Monzon's jab is hard to get past and he has enough power to keep the fundementally sound and somewhat cautious GGG at bay.

 

GGG has a great run of wins over a pretty weak era. Not his fault but I think he would struggle fighting Emile Griffith, Briscoe or Valdez. Three durable fighters who would be there for the full 15 rounds. I´d favour GGG over the Griffith and Briscoe but I think a peak Valdez would be too much for him.

Monzon was a teak tough fighter who just studies his opponents and then slowly takes them apart, Arguello was similar except Monzon used his boxing skills more and had less one punch power.

Both had iron jaws so this fight going 15 tough rounds. GGG would start well, might do a Valdez II and score a knockdown but from the 5th Monzon would take over and probably batter him over the last 3 rounds for a clear decision. Would be a classic.
