This is a question that just popped in my head today, when Fenech beat Samart guys makes excuses that Fenech beat an unfit version of him.

But again, will prime Samart actually do better? Fenech was a machine y'know.

Can you remind me what Samart claimed to be wrong him?

He looked fine, scored a KD IIRC but was simply overwhelmed by Jeff who finished him with a very nice right hand in its own right.

Bad weight cut, went in put a ton of money on himself and made some claims… out of shame he hid at a monastery and short term became a monk.

They could fight 10 times and Fenech wins 10 times.

Fenech is a legendary fighter and has a pretty big class edge over Samartarse (Aussie fans will get the joke) Payakaroon.

Yeah, I remember the monastery/monk phase following the fight.

Old Mate Samart aged about 60/61 in Jan 24 looking pretty well.

He looks healthy wonder how he feels / sounds. Samart could’ve been a really good boxer in his own right if he’d been built in Philly / New York etc Muay Thai cross over guys have a lot of quirks / issues that’d need to be ironed out to succeed the way say a Toney, Mayweather or Napoles could… not to say there aren’t great Thai boxers but they could be “more” he was in his own words an Ali clone one of many in the 80s-90s.

Well he was a legit puncher - I remember feeling that it was a very dangerous fight for Jeff. While a physique doesn’t always tell the story - Samart had that classic build that strongly suggested that he could punch.

He could punch a bit ay? Jeff couldn't which tells me it was the scales that got Samart.... I believe the punch he landed on Fenech to drop him was a right cross... (southpaw stance) he loaded it at a weird angle and it looked like a badly thrown jab but with weight behind it but it's been a bit.

Boxing wise, there's nothing on his record that indicates Samart would ever beat Fenech, who was also a bad style match up for him. His best wins are a biblically aged Pintor (which very possibly wasn't even on the level) and Meza.

At the most, Samart might look good for a few extra rounds before Fenech overwhelms him again. Absolute iron men like Villisana and Uncle Azumah couldn't keep Fenech off them. No reason to assume Samart could imo.

IIRC, legit KD of course but Fenech might’ve also been caught a bit off balance.

Jeff’s game was accumulation but I think Jeff did land a picturesque right hand to finish - even though he progressively beat his opp. down most of the time otherwise.

Sometimes it is just a good punch Griffith KD’d D1ck Tiger and he wasn’t known or meant to be a puncher, aberrations exist the stars align Fenech was strong and got a lot of shoulder into it even if he was an arm puncher you can still KO someone if everything works out right… I don’t think Samart was that good (grand scheme of things) similar opinion as @roughdiamond in how he describes how doomed he was against our Jeff who really was a piece of iron. I do think Jeff was caught off guard and going into a good and tricky to predict shot. Happy Easter Pug, have a Kindergarten surprise bunny for the two of us… I was too late to the shelves.
