Roy Jones, Jr, Hector Camacho, Meldrick Taylor, Mike Dokes, Tony Tubbs all come to mind.

Eddie Hopson was hyped as being super fast with his hands. Alas, while putting on an exhibition of his hand speed against Tracy Harris Patterson, he moved into a right hand and was stopped. He went 4-1 for the rest of his career fighting 8 round fights.

I bet there's a moral hidden in this story somewhere!

In person, Roy Jr and it’s not even close.

Hector Camacho is second among those I’ve seen live.

I’d have to think long and hard for third. Probably Mike Tyson, but Michael Nunn was pretty fast.

In person... at Heavyweight it's Justis Huni by an absolute mile. It's phenomenal to watch in person.

Floyd did excellent work with Tracy, you told me there was a rule about how many fights he had to have before a title shot… seeing Tyson’s schedule early on makes me think it might’ve been a CUS rule passed down from the old boxing world.

Tis the trouble with cameras… some periods of old school cameras can actually make guys look faster, unadjusted footage makes Ali a blur of fists a bit more stabilised higher quality film and while still fast NO DOUBT he didn’t leave the same “otherworldly” impression.

Hard to argue against Roy Jones Jr when it comes to raw speed, especially in his prime. The way he handled Toney was ridiculous, like he was moving in fast-forward. That said, guys like Pacquiao and Sugar Ray Leonard weren’t far off either, different styles, but lightning quick in their own ways. Depends a bit on how you define “fast”, I guess, hand speed, reflexes, footwork… they all play a part.

Off the top of me head only RJJ really punched especially hard and properly, the rest slapped, especially Taylor he wasn’t throwing real shots a lot of the time correct me if I’m wrong I haven’t seen much Dokes or Tubbs doe… could Louis when he got going make it into a list? His combinations were very short.

Yep, I was there when he iced Thulani Malinga — basically one-punched him, but Roy was so fast he hit him again (and whiffed on an uppercut because the target was collapsing before him) on the way down.

I was excited about that matchup particularly because Sugar Boy had given fits to the likes of Benn and Eubank, and figured his careful (and slick) style might force Roy Jr out of his comfort zone … nah, Roy won rounds but was patient and let the KO come without forcing it.

His punches were a blur in person.

Some of us are older than 30. Saw Roy three times in person, Sosa, del Valle and Woods. Never seen a guy his size remotely in the same range as far as twitch. Hair trigger punches that were hard to track with the eye.
