Don't laugh because Jess Willard was champion in an era of only 1 champion per weight class. He also was stronger than Wilder and could bull him around, much like Fury did and Fury wasn't known as a big puncher, but hit plenty hard enough to hurt Wilder and I suspect that Willard would as well hit hard enough to hurt Wilder.

That said who wins the battle of the W's?

If this had been a scheduled 12 round fight, I would go with Jess Willard by Decision, but it would have been a dangerous f(r)ight for him.

Willard is a rare HW champ I can see Wilder outpointing without a knockout. Not that it'd be a sure thing but Wilder can outpoint him I think. He won his belt in a fight he was getting shutout 25-0. He didn't win that belt his manager did.

Fulton and Coffey are the 1910s giants that impress. Same with Morris even if Willard has a win over him. If you're looking for a giant from that era to knock out Wilder Fultons your guy.

Wilder’s nuke of a right hand would make the third world war end abruptly.

This is a bad fight for Willard.
Wilders power gets him out of there in 5 IMO.

It's much easier for Wilder to get a stoppage in the modern era than in Willard's era.

    Obviously.

So, as always, it depends upon the gloves, the distance, the referee etc.

Willard is an awful boxer, all he has going for him is size, toughness and some power.

Wilder is also a bad boxer (but better than Willard) however he's got shattering power, better speed and pretty good stamina and grit.

I can't see how Willard wins this, because he's not hard to land on and Wilder has a thunderbolt of a right hand. It would be a contest between Wilder's stamina and Willard's face, and I'm betting the mortgage on Wilder caving him in before getting tired.

I'd pick all of Wilder's opponents in the highlight video to beat Willard too!

Remember, Willard was heavyweight champion of the world. Just like Holyfield

If it’s a 50 round fight, with a very lenient referee like the Willard-Dempsey fight…..

    Wilder sleeps him in 1.

Why is there such a low opinion of Willard. He was a super heavyweight who was the best of his era.

If somebody told Willard that he's allowed to keep his hands by his face, slip punches and move from side to side as well as backwards when somebody wants to punch him ... I guess it wouldn't be Willard anymore.
