Benn couldn't beat a 35 year old over the hill weight drained Eubank who had a rehydration clause the kid clearly sucks. It's a mismatch without the rehydration clause.
He's a Welterweight, and he gave a really big Middleweight all he could handle in an instant classic. The Middleweight division is what sucks here, given that Eubank is probably a top 5 Middleweight, yet looked helpless at times and threw everything inlcuding the kitchen sink at a Welterweight he could not stop.
Eubank was massively compromised here. He looked very poor and frankly quite ill. No surprise he is spending a few days in the hospital. He can’t make 160 safely, let alone the rehydration clause. Any live fighter would have ironed that version out in a few rounds, shows to me that Benn is poor.
I think this is a bit hyperbolic. IMO he looked like 35 hit him hard, and the weight cut certainly had something to do with it, but he outworked Benn with ease. Eubank was clearly in great shape and was able to physically expend himself even when exhausted. But not that I disagree too much. I just wanted to highlight that Eubank was able to keep a good workrate.
Eubank was nothing of the fighter he's been in the past, all the spite has gone, and where were those ferocious uppercuts gone? he had no energy whatsoever in there, how tf he got through 12 gruelling rounds like that beats the snot out of me!
I mean let's be real, the division is so stagnant and the fighters so unproven that basically everyone has a case for being a top 5 Middleweight. You could probably pick a random poster from here that can weigh in at 160 and he would have a case for it. It's a wasteland.
Mediocre welterweight with no names to his resume Vs decent super middle who faltered at the top level because he's one dimensional and hits like a girl. Would have preferred to see Ben compete at welter when it was hot on fire 10+ years ago but then days are well and truly over. Sad times. Meanwhile Eubank should retire and probably will once he's milked this opportunity which was laid both of their fathers.
Have to agree. They both showed a lot of heart, was really impressed with Eubank in the later rounds after he broke his jaw. This fight took a lot out of both fighters. If Eubank wins the rematch, I can see him fighting Canelo then hanging the gloves up.
A welterweight gave a drained super middleweight all he could handle and wobbled him multiple times, and your conclusion is that the welterweight sucks?
Eubank senior summed it up before the fight. 147 should fight at 147. 160 should fight at 160. The stipulations were massively against Eubank but if they weren't, it would have been a huge mismatch. These guys should not be fighting each other and should stick to their own divisions. It was a good fight to watch but purely from an entertainment point of view.
All these people saying Eubank looked poor and ill the man threw over 300 punches in the last 3 rounds in a tough fight he couldn't of been that compromised..... Neither are world class Middleweights Benn was too small and doesn't belong at Middleweight and Eubank is past his best. I don't see why we have to criticise anyone the fight exceeded expectations and we were all entertained I don't understand the negativety TBH. Yes it wasn't for a title and in the grand scheme of things it wasn't a big fight in terms of two elite fighters. But the hype the rivalry between two boxing families going back 30 years along with the fight exceeding expectations still made it riveting to watch.
