There was a funny video where Margarito came up behind Floyd to ask him for a fight and you could see the moment Floyd shat his pants.
Don't believe this is accurate. Ward offered to fight Golovkin at 168 - and Golovkin's promoter clearly stated that their focus is on middleweight division. I also remember GGG saying "Andre Ward - too much for me". His English was not great, so I think was He meant was that He's too big, but in any case, it was Golovkin who bailed out of that fight.
Nope. When Ward had the chance of taking the fight at 168 he emphatically refused it. Want the link? I've posted it at least a dozen times before.
Andre Ward (31-0, 15 KOs) has ruled out entirely him moving back down to 168 to fight unbeaten Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) after he moves up to super middleweight. https://www.boxingnews24.com/2017/04/ward-says-wont-fight-golovkin-168/
That's from 2017... so after Kovalev fight. Of course He wasn't going to move back down in weight at that point. Golovkin wasn't calling him out either, someone just mentioned that fight ot him so He replied. Andre Ward expressed willingness to fight GGG in 2014 or 2015. That's also when there were some talks of Golovkin taking a fight at 168 pounds (Thomas Oosthuizen was suppose to be an opponent, if I'm not mistaken) - so that's when the fight could've realistically taken place and Golovkin team bailed out. “I moved up. That was a real opportunity for him to take that fight. He didn’t want the fight. He wanted to push it out 2 or 3 years. Once you go up, you can’t come back down. If he wants to come up, that’s another story. I’m not going back down,” Source: Ward Says He Won’t Fight Golovkin At 168 - Boxing News 24 (https://www.boxingnews24.com/2017/04/ward-says-wont-fight-golovkin-168/)" Yep. That's exactly what happend. No major issue on my side, Golovkin was a Middleweight so I don't think He had an obligation to move up, but let's call it for what it was. Figth did not happen because Golovkin team did not want it.
As always people jump in with 10 chapters of defence for Ward who called for Golovkin repeatedly to fight him at 168 but then bottled it when the opportunity came Meanwhile, I specifically note that GOLOVKIN had no problem in "going back down" to 154 for Floyd. Funny how it's always GGG that has to make the fight.
“Little G’ turned down an official fight with us,” Ward told the reporter. “The reality is for all the talk ... the proof is in the pudding. I have an email right now that shows we gave them what they want ... 50/50 ... and the man -- the promoter --turned it down, said maybe 2017.”
