Like Ring and KO and World Boxing and International Boxing, in a way,, on the magazine stands.

Because for example, this weekend Canelo fights Scrull, I know only one of the two guys.

The Internet....I dont know most boxing websites except this one and Boxrec. And so , but if I was forced to see a boxer whenever I went to the supermarket, on the cover of a print magazine, I would know both boxers and be excited for this fight!

it's like traveling in a way. In the old times you went to a travel agency and took those travel guides and knew all the options. Nowadays, Wikipedia is as good a travel guide as it gets on the internet!

I really miss those mags in print.
Going in to the newsagents at the end of the month and all the new mags out.

No-one will buy them any more.

Once you're used to free stuff you develop an absolute reluctance to pay for it.

I read about guys here seeing names like Khaosai Galaxy in print or occasionally in photos then sending away for a few fights on VHS… it must’ve been magical, I’m glad for the free fights on YouTube but it must’ve been a rush to eye the mail box for tape of a mystery fighter from far away.

A Boxing magazine will go broke today, they vanished not because they wanted, it´s because it couldn´t be done anymore.

The printed mag business is small today but you have printed mags of many subjects still, but Boxing is so niche, so small now, that it can´t work it out anymore...

    It really was Was mate.
You had some really good interesting articles in there about past fighters.
I remember one in boxing scene, with Jack Sharkey,it was around 1988 .
Talking about his fights with Dempsey, Louis, carnera etc.
We lost something when the Mags disappeared from our shelf's.

Yeah I miss boxing mags too. I subscribed to all of 'em back in the day - Ring, KO, World Boxing, Boxing (year) even that British mag . I couldn't get enough actually.

You lose the depth of analysis the writers back then - Nigel Collins, Steve Farhood, Jeff Ryan, William Detlaff etc., even that old hack Bert Sugar - brought to the table! Internet articles, in general, are shorter and more superficial.

But you get your fight outcomes instantaneously. In the old days, if it wasn't on TV - and there only a few outlets, including the USA, ESPN and the broadcast nets - you had to wait weeks, even months to get results! So there's pros and cons to all of this.

I've got a bunch for sale, 1940s and 1950s, full years and Bound Volumes too... if anyone is interested.

and more than 10 years of Boxing News to go too, 40s, 50s & 60s.

One of the first things I did when I went to the UK for my one trip there in the early 1990s was stop at a news stand and pick up a copy of Boxing News.

I ended up subscribing and even though they came a bit late with overseas shipping, I eagerly looked forward to and devoured every issue.

@Mike Cannon once made a post that always stuck with me. He said he was waiting for a result and when he would see the latest Boxing News at the newstand he would hurriedly roll it up so he wouldn't see the headlines and make his way to his parent's house where he would sit down with a cup of tea and biscuits and dive into the publication. Man, this is exactly something I would do with anticipation. I miss those days.

    If you had 80s stuff!

I have a special place in my heart for late 70s-80s boxing.
