How would it go between these mediocre Super-Middleweight champions (& Light-Heavyweight contenders)? I rate both of them higher than Lacy, Mundine and Smith, maybe similar as Froch and Brewer.
I don't think either were mediocre but I do believe Bute was the superior fighter between the two. He was an excellent body puncher that had some versatility to his game. Lucas was tough as nails but limited defensively. I will take the more complete Bute by late stoppage.
I meant them are not all time top 10, but possible top 20: Though the Romanian has more power, but was often too passive, as body-puncher. The Canadian is much taller, but either had not the best stamina (Lucas was for instance winning in the first Catley fight and vs. Green, just as the last two rounds vs. Beyer; Bute was exhausted/ out of his feet in first Andrade bout, particular the last minute and didn't show any effort against Pasqual). The live maybe both in Quebec (could be Montreal).
Didn't Bute start out as a training partner of Lucas? Doesn't really matter though, I'd pick Byte by decision over Lucas.
It depends on what time frame The younger version of Lucas had granite chin. Roy Jones smothered Lucas but couldnt take him out back when Roy was destroying everyone. A much bigger Tiozzo put him down with a great shot but got up and finished the fight. Tiozzos home crowd in France was chanting Lucas name at the end of the fight. The 2001 version of Lucas couldve beaten young Bute
