Lewis beat his usyk twice (robbery draw) And stopped both guys who stopped him, while sending rahman to the other dimension There are no comparisons between those two as skilled fighters. As others have said already, it's much fairer to compare Aj with Bruno. Of Bruno was around during Aj time, I expect he would do as well, or maybe better than Aj Lewis Aj
AJ is a better athlete in the purest form of the word. Lewis is the better boxer in all elements. Fighting was not an emotional stress for Lewis, he genuinely loved it. That is the biggest difference for me
Although the sport improves over time, most of the advantages Joshua's era has over, say, 1975 don't carry over into a Joshua vs 1990s comparison. I don't think there's generally believed to be much of a difference in boxing skill between Lennox's era and now. The fighters are probably a bit bigger now on average, but the training advantage may actually go to the 90s guys, who could blatantly use whatever PEDs they wanted without testing.
Wlad's loss to journeyman Ross Purritty is pretty close to that, and Wlad nearly beat AJ as an old man, so he wasn't far off from whatever quality bar existed in Joshua's era, IMO. This sort of thing happens. Although Mercer may be a bit overrated, yes.
Mercer gave Holyfield and Lewis hard fights. Was a pretty good fighter. I regret my post if anything. And yeah, but didn’t they find poison in his system after Purritty?
Absolutely I agree 100% with this. When I watch AJ and Lennox fight, I see two completely different skill sets, and I don't believe that AJ has a single punch that he throws better than Lewis. Lenox threw far better punches against far better competition. Lennox was fluid, smooth and natural when he fought. AJ is extremely robotic, and does not think very well in the ring at all. The difference between their skill sets are night and day in my opinion.
I think even guys from 75 could be competitive today to be clear. I mean foreman in late 40s beat Briggs
The only thing Aj might do better than Lewis is his combination punching, but that gets negated by his suspect chin against live fighters.
That would be Brewster. Or at least the argument was made. Sanders and Purritty weren't questioned as being on the level, IIRC.
Yes, although that's Foreman with modern training assistance. Post-40 fighters are much more common these days because we have ways of keeping them competitive. That said, yeah, Foreman at the time was REALLY old.
