You are not p4p #1 if you get dropped and almost stopped by an Uber driver

Inoue has the usual suspects raging.

 

I'm not a huge Inoue fan but he recovered like a p4p fighter. Anyone can get dropped by anyone in boxing, that criticism is way overrated these days.

 

If he was American and Tony Willis was the ref that would've been ruled a slip.

 

He's not p4p #1 Usyk is.

 

We’re now in an era of boxing where people are criticizing fighters simply for getting knocked down. Never mind the fact that Inoue not only recovered quickly but arguably dominated most of the fight after that round. You seriously can’t make this stuff up

Whereas in the past we’ve had plenty of ATGs who have been knocked down or even knocked out against subpar opponents even in their primes. People really need to get a grip and realize that in boxing anything can happen unexpectedly. That’s part of the game. And clearly Cardenas was much better than most gave him credit.

 

Prime Roy Jones Jr got knocked down by Lou Del Valle, whom Jones wasnt able to stop. That must mean he sucked.

 

Inoue is an elite fighter. Elite fighters make mistakes. He got up and knocked his man out

 

Cardenas was rated in the top ten by the Ring. It's more like being dropped by Ajagba

 

What the thread starter never took into account is the moving up in weight. Facing guys bigger and stronger.

 

I'm not criticizing Inoue for getting knocked down. Not at all. All great fighters get knocked down. One could go so far as to say that if you haven't ever been knocked down, you're not a great fighter.

That said, when a large amount of folks are proclaiming you to be P4P#1 aka THE BEST FIGHTER IN THE SPORT, you can't get heavily knocked down by a total unknown 100-1 underdog, no matter how underrated that fighter may be, and retain such a lofty distinction. For me, Inoue was never p4p#1 - it's clearly Usyk. That said, there are still a large amount of folks who believe that he is, and they are wrong.

 

Getting knocked down by a heavy underdog doesn’t automatically invalidate his P4P standing, #1 or not. He got dropped, dusted it off, and finished the fight strong. Nobody cares about the fact that he got dropped by someone who wasn’t known. What really mattered was how he responded and still fought like a true professional afterwards. Usyk is still #1 in my opinion but I’m totally fine with people ranking Inoue as the top P4P fighter.

 

These aren't knock downs, he fell down because they pushed him.
