The Most Underrated Champion in History - Joe Calzaghe

My pick for the most underrated, or at least underappreciated champion/titelest in history, is Horacio Accavallo.

On a scale balancing quality of record vs how high profile and highly rated they are today, I feel Accavallo, along with many others, have a better argument here than Calzaghe, who incidentally, I was a big fan of.

 

Not sure if this is just pretty regular banter / friendly between you two but if not let’s keep race out of it and not make it weird - if this is some inside joke I’m not in on, don’t mind me then (Qawi definitely beats the breaks off JC sincerely a white guy lol)

 

An underrated champion IMO or maybe better called unmentioned? Juan Carlos Gomez he did a solid job at 190lbs and Fabrice Tiozzo is another “solid” champion I’d like to mention if only just to get there names out there.

 

Leaving race out of the equation as any rational mind would do, he's right

If Calzaghe were to face the doom of fighting Qawi he'd do... Good lord... He'd... Jesus

 

Qwai was not in his division so why make the comparison?

 

Much like Marciano, or Lennox Lewis, he beat who he could get in front of him when he could get them, which includes seven fellow titlists, notably Jones, Hopkins and Eubank.

He couldn't do anything more, and if Jones and Hopkins think they could have done better earlier on, then they should have fought him then.

 

For all the big names on his record, this is the one that made him. It was his Barrera-Prince Naseem moment. No one was picking him going in, but they knew who the boss was leaving.

 

Actually I think Calzaghe is rated pretty highly by everybody. Probably "the dude" at 168.

 

I think he's overrated.
Too many years padding his record against low tier opposition - and only risked the big name US fights when the opposition had diminished. Lacy was proven to be all hype. Kessler is his best win IMO. But it's hard to say how good Joe was as he never tested himself earlier.
