Great era that back then. None of the glitz and glamour of these shows these days. Friday night boxing with a much smaller crowd, none of the fancy entrances and all that bollocks. Brilliant atmospheres. Him and Danny Williams were two of my favourite boxers on the British scene back then. Commentators and pundits weren't all talking shite either.
Same here, I remember back in the day on BBC 606 forum the domestic heavyweights would get absolutely slated for not being world beaters but THEY ACTUALLY FOUGHT EACH OTHER, and now guys even at domestic level don't fight nearly as regularly as Williams etc and will only get out of bed for far more coin than they're worth.
I've yet to meet a boxing fan who has a bad word to say about Danny Williams. I loved seeing him knock Tyson out.
Personally known Julias for over 20 years. Use to see him literally every two weeks in local barbershop. Had so many debates over different fighters etc etc. Top bloke!
Those were the days, loved Friday fight night on sky, some decent scraps on there before the days of every fight above british level being ppv
Hope he is doing well. That era of British heavyweight boxing was underrated...Francis, Audley, Skelton, Williams, Rogan, Sprott, Gammer, McDermott...its not there there as a Dubois or Joshua in the bunch, but they were all tough and some of the fights were competitive real fun.
Ah man, so many memories. I met Sprotty in Reading after he knocked Audley out, he was the king of Reading for a few weeks! Then Audley comes back with that mad late KO in the rematch... I was happy to see him get a payday as one of AJ's opponents. Chaos was guarenteed with the fighters you mention above. They weren't neccessarily world level but they all brought it.
