Convince me Michael Spinks won the rematch with Larry Holmes!

I never heard a compelling argument that could sway my opinion about the second fight between Michael Spinks and Larry Holmes. I feel like The Jinx clearly won the first bout, but I always scored the rematch 9-6 for Holmes. 8-7 would be a stretch, but how the hell can you find 9 rounds for Spinks in that one? Do we have anyone on this forum who scored the rematch for Mike? I would love the see the card!

 

Maybe you can give your round by round so then we can discuss. Here's mine and if you give all the close rounds for Spinks then I can def see it for him might need to rewatch though.

I definitely felt Holmes won.

Well, I have Holmes as a victor, I'm just looking for the argument that Spinks won it, since it was an official decision and minority of the public indeed had him winning.

 

I never comprised a scorecard. But Spinks was relatively idle for the first four or five rounds which put him way behind Larry. That and Holmes was landing the more effective shots throughout the fight that had Spinks noticeably hurt. It wasn’t a domination by any means but I can’t see much of a case for giving that win to Spinks. A draw might have been reasonable but even that’s stretching it

 

The 36 year old Holmes faded towards the end of the fight but,in my opinion,he'd banked enough of the earlier rounds to have got the decision - and his title back.

 

I was convinced I had my scorecard on my phone, but turns out I have it on my previous one, LOL! Will have to go back to you with that one.

 

I had Holmes ahead by four points. Total robbery, Spinks never landed a single damaging shot, Holmes landed over a dozen.

 

Rewatching the fight its pretty hard to give it to Spinks. Holmes clearly won 8 rounds and there were a few close rounds that I think could have gone either way but not enough to swing it Spinks way pretty awful robbery all things considered. Looking at the judges scorecard 2 judges gave the 5th, which was closer but still should have been a clear Holmes round, to Spinks. The other rounds that they gave to Spinks despite being clear Holmes arounds were 9th and 11th. The others(6th,12th) you can arguably give to Spinks but were pretty close and could have gone either way. But regardless bad decision should have been a clear Holmes win.

 

I don't think anyone is trying.

 

One of the mags put two writers H2H on this, i think if was Steve Farhood and Jeff Ryan. They argued the two opposing sides. I wonder if i can find it.

Eddie Futch told Holmes that Spinks won both fights.

Personally i definitely felt Holmes won the second, without scoring it. Holmes got a decent headstart even tho it was a 15 rounder.
