By that logic, a lot of Tyson’s wins shouldn’t have allowed to happen: Seldon and Spinks were to scared and then we have tin men like Peter McNeeley, Henry Tillman, Buster Mathis Jr, … I could go on and on.

Mike learned first-hand — sometimes you’re the bug, sometimes you’re the windshield.

gatti-ward 1 was like a movie. It was too good to be true. Everything about it including the commentary was iconic.

March 8, 1971...Ali-Frazier I...the FOTC. We were in high school and a bunch of us went to see it on closed circuit TV....biggest fight in my lifetime. The whole world was watching!

Whole world was watching and it was on a Monday night!!!

And there were lots of folks on both sides going into the bout. most often we get lots of hype on big bouts but not too many 6-5 pick'em type bouts; like say Evander/Riddick #1. But lots of the old timers did not like the style and especially the bragging of Ali. It's hard to comprehend from >50 years ago the dislike for the guy and he won people over begrudgingly. As much as anyone in the sport--heavily disliked to highly appreciated. Usually it's the other way liked to disliked but seldom disliked to liked.

I also have that 1971 fight poster in my house. That would set you back $$$$$ trying to buy today, wouldn't it?
