I think people are forgetting that Jones struggled with pressure fighters and could be forced to the ropes even against not-great pressure fighters like Castro. Plus, he really didn't have that many fights at middleweight all things considered. Prime Golovkin definitely had the tools to give Jones a hard time (his feet were much faster back then) and the power to knock him out. GGG's ability to cut off the ring and his relentless pressure would create problems for Jones that he's not used to dealing with, especially if he could back him to the ropes where Jones was more vulnerable. I'd probably favor Jones overall because of his speed and reflexes, but I give Golovkin a good chance to knock Jones out if he could land something clean. Though I doubt GGG would win a decision given Jones' flashier style that typically impressed judges more. This would be a much closer fight than people think and Golovkin has a style that would def trouble Jones more then people anticipate.
Golovkin only fought aggressive Mexican style against the monthly bum club. If the opponent was good enough to strike him he suddenly became a mid range boxer. If Canelo and Jacobs kept him from imposing himself , imagine how safety first he would be against Roy Jones
Yeah Toney was usually scored 12-0 or 11-1, common scores for Bhop was 116-112 (all three officials in fact) or 8-4. Jones power, speed and ability to catch him via those awkward angles would simmer him down enough to for 8-4 or better IMO. Jones is much different to your usual otherworldly fast boxer, he can take you head off with one punch at 160. You can't just chase after him all night as the incoming is mad.
Jones was still green against Hopkins. And Jones took his foot of the gas in the later rounds allowing Hopkins to win a few rounds. I was not impressed by Hopkins's showing in that fight. Jones pretty much dictated everything in that fight.
I'm not sure GGG beats Roy but a guy like GGG who doesn't buy RJJ's game, makes thing's happen, has a helluva chin and a better punch is the type of guy that should beat RJJ he was solid in every aspect of the game and if he could work Jones inside he could do some good stuff but I think G would lose most of the time.
i think Jones' speed is the difference. He'd get a decision win IMO, but he wouldn't stop Golovkin and he's not knocking him down.
Look we may have disagreed about stuff but I don't think I have made you cover your ears and crawl into a fetal position like this guy just did to me watching this (still watching this...)
Yeah I'm not sold on Golovkin being the puncher here. Maybe he was a better break you down puncher but Roy Jones was a huge puncher and to me has way more 1 shot power in both hands than Golovkin. This content is protected This content is protected That kind of power with that kind of speed is just unfair. Golovkin's head would be on a platter for Roy and I'm not ruling out that Golovkin is actually the prey here not the hunter.
