Mercer was 42 years old and had mostly been inactive for 6 years only having 6 fights in that period prior to facing Wladimir with not one notable win.

So what would you call that then ? Fresh as a daisy ?

So yes it's common sense Mercer was completely past his best and the age and inactivity with a lack of notable performances/wins should be the biggest clue.

I mean mercer looked damn sharp before that Wladimir whoopin. Just now seen this fight! I knew ray was on a seven fight win streak but he looked as dangerous as ever before his nightmare in Atlantic City.

That last shot showed he was just as mean as ever!! Man. lol

So knocking out a 19-15 journeyman who had been stopped in 14 out of his 15 losses is your argument Mercer at 42 years old with 6 fights in 6 years was close to his best ? Ok.

    This
I bet mercer would look great knocking me out today, but I don't box professionally

Not saying he beats wlad, but he was an old, rusty fighter

The thing is I'm not even saying Wladimir couldn't beat a prime Mercer.

But we don't have to pretend the version of Mercer who fought Wladimir was close to his best or still revenant as a fighter because he wasn't.

Even though Wladimir would be clutching at Daniel Like a child having his first fight in the schoolyard, I still think he would whoop DD. Man, I hated to say that.

He was slower due to age though. That left hook was telegraphed everytime he threw it and AJ was subsequently able to see it coming and duck under it and evade it. He still looked athletic, light on his feet, sharp, pretty fast, and extremely powerful though

If you watch footage of a supposedly ''shot'' 35-39 y/o Roy he looks just as fast as ever and there's no discernible difference between that version and the 'prime' version and if there is a difference it's highly likely due to him not having jousted industrial amounts of roids up his ass

Yes, Vitali was heavy handed and he did hit hard but he was generally more an accumulation guy, whereas, conversely, Wlad's power was absolutely devastating, both hands, and on a completely different level to his brother's

If Wlad cracked Lewis clean like that the fight would be over in the blink of an eye

Had Wlad pressed Glass Joshua after that knockdown instead of hanging back and being cautious I think there was still like 1:30 left in the round after AJ got up we would have seen the same quit job he did in the Ruiz fight just sooner in his career. Wlad was too analytical at times and Vitali was as well just less so.
