Taylor fought 10th fight 15-0 Ohara 11th 39-5 Miguel Vazquez 13th 29-1 Postol 14th 22-0 Ryan Martin 15th 19-0 Baranchyk for the world title 16th 24-0 Rougarou to become unified 17th 16-0 Khongsong 18th 26-0 JCR to become undisputed in the US with a US ref and 3 US judges 19th 26-0 Catterall 20th 18-1 Teofimo in Teofimo's backyard coming off 16 months of inactivity and multiple injuries. Taylor was the champion not Teofimo 21st 28-1 Catterall 7 world champions in 21 fights Postol is still to this day a top 3 win for Crawford who was 28-0 and he'd fought six world title fights at the time. Crawford didn't even win a world title until his 23rd fight. Taylor was undisputed in 18 fights Andre Ward was an Olympic gold medalist but he didn't even become a world champion until his 21st fight In 63 combined fights both Crawford and Ward have fought outside their home country combined once. Taylor has fought outside the UK x 4 in 21 fights and Crawford had to travel for that fight because Burns was the champion and wanted to fight at home Taylor had an extremely steep learning curve and regardless of what you think of him he was undisputed in 18 fights, fought undefeated opponent after undefeated opponent, or fighters with excellent records with 1 loss, and took risks like countless others would never have taken so early in their careers, even so called greats who never dared travel to fight in their opponent's backyards once, let alone with a home ref and 3 home judges
He’s done great in his overall career you can’t argue against that but he’s lost his last 2 big fights could even say 3 if you count the robbery in the first Catterall fight an at 34 is definitely on the decline. I can’t see him winning another world title but then who knows in this day an age of so many nondescript champs currently holding title belts
I think he's done at the top level. A combination of factors. Lifestyle. Leaving Shane McGuigan. Loss of confidence. Injuries etc.
Nah I disagree, Regis always had slow feet. Good fighter, but his era wasn't much better than Crawfords reign at 140 imo
Yep 140 really sucked during Taylor's reign. Prograis was always horribly overrated, good speed and power but in terms of actual skills not impressive at all. The fact that Lopez and Haney both moved up and made easy work of the 2 of the supposed best fighters at 140 says it all.
Wasn’t the barnburner that I was anticipating but it was still a good fight with some nice rounds in the first half with Essuman out working Taylor in the last half of the fight. Taylor’s heart and passion is just no longer there but big props to Essuman for proving his doubters wrong. He definitely opened more opportunities at 147. Would like to see him take on Norman/Sasaki winner next.
