He might have been living a ****ty lifestyle but he’s still much younger than a Kovalev who was living just as bad of a lifestyle or worse when Kovalev started showing signs of deterioration. Even a shot alcoholic Kovalev would knock someone like Essuman out in 5-6 rounds. If Taylor really is physically shot, then that just shows how ****ty his skill set is because even physically shot fighters like Kovalev would still make easy work out of non elite competition because they had the skill set. Taylor was just a weight bully who had a good engine.
Nonsense, there’s a long list of weight bullies who would go on to accomplish nothing. Although big, Taylor consistently showed a well rounded skill set and great offensive iq. It’s also important to keep in mind that Taylor has only really been fighting tough opponents the last few years.
Little bit. He was the best of a mediocre bunch. The Crawford comparisons were always ridicuolus. He’ll be remembered as a decent fighter with a short prime. Nothing more, nothing less.
"Great IQ" and Josh Taylor dont belong in the same sentence. He had a solid skill level, offensively at least, but his defense was always terrible, even in his prime, and no he didn't have a great IQ. I'm basically in agreement here that he was massively overrated.
I don't think overrated is the word. He had the skill, drive and talent when he was on the way up but seem to lose it when he started facing adversity. It's tough to get out of bed to do roadwork at 5am when you're sleeping in silk pyjamas.
This kind of thread needs to be created when the guy is in his prime. Not when he is in his way out. "hey dawg! this guy unified the division yesterday night, but I think he's overrated as ****" <-- This comment is actually not very easy to post here. "hey dawg! this guy who lost tonight, whose prime was 5 years ago, and who is totally washed has always been overrated" <--- Anyone can post a comment like this one. I dont find fun to smash a fallen fighter, tbh. Maybe the reason is that I dont specially dislike Taylor, and if I search for some old comments of mine maybe I can find myself doing what I'm saying we shouldnt do. Who knows.
Fans talk about this mythical Josh Taylor as if he was once upon a time some great. On Taylor's VERY BEST NIGHT he barely scraped past Regis. I love Regis, but he's hardly some great himself. I always felt that Regis looked like the better fighter in that one; Josh won it because he wanted it more, and outfought Regis down the stretch. Wins over Prograis and Ramirez aren't enough to annoint a guy as great. Taylor was the product of a pretty average 140 pound division, that's all. Compared to previous junior welter eras, Taylor was average. Khan and Alexander would have beaten Taylor, for instance.
So did I. But for doing so I had to read many people calling me names, saying that I hated white fighters, for example. I don't need to bash Taylor today, though, everybody will do it anyway.
Taylors decision over Caterall didnt do him any favours in the Boxing domain But you dont become a world champion by being **** Theres far more overrated boxers that never become world champions
People were calling him the greatest Scottish fighter of all time. The guy was pretty damn overrated.
Hey idiot Chacal I’ve always said he’s overrated search my post history from back to 2018. Don’t **** with me puto.
