Max Schmeling vs Ray Mercer

If Schmeling fights him using all of his slippery movements and guile, I think he could win a decision. If Schmeling fights him face first like he fought Baer, he gets knocked out horribly.

 

This is a weird match up. Hard to envision

 

Max who is underrated here makes him look foolish.

 

If old Larry can do that, surely young Max can.

 

If Baer, who is a rudimentary boxer at best, was able to knock him around I don't see how Mercer can't

 

I like your answer the best. It would all come down to Max’s game plan and exactly HOW the fight was fought.

 

Mercer would be way too strong ...

I’m not sure if Max can really hurt Mercer here, has he ever KO’d a fighter the size of Ray and with as good a chin? He was against a brick wall in Baer who was the closest thing we can compare to Ray yet he couldn’t hurt Baer no matter how lethal his counters were. He also didn’t have the mobility to adapt against such a bigger man.

Schmeling is one of my favourites, but I don’t see a path to victory for him here.

 

As it has been mentioned by others, my man Max is in an uphill battle here, but he still has a chance to pull a win depending on his gameplan.

If Max goes for the cerebral, laser focused, carefull approach he brought versus Louis, then maybe he manages an UD.

But if Max tries to go all macho and play tough with Mercer, then it is good night Max.
