Hard to say but I'm going with Luis Ortiz ! Luis Ortiz prime was a southpaw and a far more technically boxer with a lot of experiences, more resistant than the Ortiz who fought against Wilder. So I'm going with Luis Ortiz by UD. Kabayel beat Makhmudov who was overrated and Zhilei Zhang was a way too old when he beat him. But Luis Ortiz was a name like Povetkin that no one want to fight in their prime period.
Both have thin resumes... Ortiz best win was overrated gatekeeper Jennings. Kabayel's is overrated fringe contender Zhang. Kabayel has the better highlight win, but neither has anything special enough to justify their hype on it's own... Kabayel also has Chisora, and whilst I'd argue not the best or most motivated version of Del we've seen, it's still arguably a better win than Jennings. Broken record time - they're both very overrated with very limited depth to their resumes and highlights that are overplayed as well.
I'm thinking Kabayel takes it. He took Zhang's best and then put it on him and stopped him. I could see Kabayel doing the same to Ortiz.
Isn't that what you were saying when you picked Zhang to beat him? Isn't it about time to adjust your opinion of Kabayel, by a smidge? Zhang wasn't washed, he's the same guy that almost KO'd Parker and destroyed Wilder. Kabayel made him look that washed. Just like I said he would.
Kabayel got dropped by Smakici and had to go to war to get the W. He also had a fairly close fight with Chisora. Ortiz would beat him up and it’s a prettty bad matchup for Kabayel.
Zhang has an iffy record at the top level, he did before Kabayel and he does now - I've said it loads of times, but he's now literally 3-3-1 against top-200 guys. That isn't a legit contenders record. But .. at the time? Yes, he was more proven than Kabayel, who had smashed up a couple of hypejobs and whose best win at the time by far (Chisora) was a very long way behind him. It's a good win, especially being first to stop him, but I'd stand by that... Kabayel's record is basically Zhang, Chisora, fall off a cliff - it's mega thin, even if those highlights are respectable. I like to see fighters prove it before getting too giddy about what they might be - Kabayel might be serious, but you need to see more from him than a one-fight streak at a decent level following two massively overhyped guys and 6-7 years of bums at a level that would even make Wilder embarrassed.
Ortiz is kind of like a mix of Sanchez and Zhang and that suits Kabayel. Ortiz is a bit craftier than Zhang and is a lot more powerful than Sanchez but not as powerful as Zhang. But Ortiz’s stamina isn’t great either. I can see this going similar to Zhang V Kabayel, where both Ortiz and Kabayel land big shots and Kabayel will get knocked down once or twice. But Ortiz will gas out and lose by TKO late in the fight after being succumbed to constant painful body shots. I just don’t think Ortiz has the stamina or the footwork to deal with Kabayel’s bodywork. His footwork and stamina is a bit better than Zhang’s but it won’t be enough and his style suits Kabayel well. Its why I’d love to see Kabayel fight Parker as Parker would be Kabayel’s toughest test by considerable distance and Parker actually poses stylistical challenges to Kabayel by having decent footwork and stamina for once compared to the guys Kabayel has beaten.
What kind of a dope comes up with this 3-3-1 number for top 200 guys when probably 5 of them were top ten and the other 2 were probably a top 15 and top 30 guy?
You don’t know Ortiz. He had no problem at all going 12 rounds in his prime and was doubling and tripling a 40+ Zhang’s punch output. Remember Smakici? Of course not.
Toss up, Ortiz before he became a fragile old man could actually box with a bit of pop and that counts for something against another above average boxer in kabayel. Honestly not sure how this one goes most likely sees the 12th round
