Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr needs a mention for holding the best version imaginable of Pernell Whitaker to a draw despite being close to 100 fights into a grueling career and fighting well above optimal weight. That accomplishment alone would have gotten him into the IBHOF.

Mike had been reduced to a three round fighter. He was a shadow of his former self.

Plus, even if Tyson had something left physically, he did not want to box. He said that he didn't like boxing when he came out of jail. He only did it because he couldn't make money anywhere else. A person who doesn't like what he is doing will probably not give a 100% effort. I always thought Tyson, post jail, was just going through the motions, doing the minimum to get his pay check.

Ray Robinson vs Gene Fullmer or Bobo Olsen might best fit this bill.

I like the Holmes-Mercer call here too.

There’s lots of wins by elder statesmen, but not a ton of dominant ones come to mind.

Numerous better examples, but Ali turned the clock back like during Norton-Ali II.
