Hi Buddy. Agreed we will never know how it would have ended if the ref let the fight continue, mind you, better inconclusive than concussive, our lust for a conclusive ending might be detrimental to the fighters long term health, rather sooner than later for me. stay safe BB, chat soon. Mike.
If you fight in the other guy's backyard on his promoter's show, what do you expect the referee to do? Play it straight down the middle? I thought the referee was going to be a problem when he warned Huni early for hitting low & behind the head without any corresponding warnings being issued to Wardley. He then proceeded to stay out of it until the kd. Probably b/c it was so one-sided that any home-town interference would have been futile. He sped up the count at the end when it looked like Huni might beat it but really, I think by waving it off when he did he preserved Huni to fight another day. He'll get other days & hopefully they won't take place in his opponent's backyard.
The count was a bit weird, but not outside the realm of whats considered usual in boxing. There was a slim chance that Huni could have held on and won a decision regardless, but he was most likely going to get KO'd anyway. Id say on the balance, considering how widely Huni was ahead, most refs would have given him the chance to continue at least once more. Hopefully Huni takes this away and comes back even better, he always did moments of sloppiness and defenses lapses that he had so far gotten away with. He should come back better than ever.
It was quick. Huni might have still been KOd, but it looks like the ref was trying to protect the A-Side. He was getting his ass kicked.
Bang on mate. Tables reversed Wardleys count would have started late, dragged out, walk side to side etc. Absolutely shocking they cut away from the count like that tbh
One thing I do like about Jai is that he's very thoughtful when it comes to other Australian fighters. He's not someone who is totally self-absorbed. He was very interested in what the Olympics team was up to last year & he's got some good words of consolation & encouragement for Justis. He's right about Justis showcasing his skills. Damn shame he got stopped from an Australian perspective b/c we can't afford to have someone that good go back down the slippery slope. The big issue for Justis going forward is going to be chin. He was hurt against Kiki Toa Leutele (a fight most people haven't seen), again against Kevin Lerena (a fight everyone saw) & obviously stopped against Wardley (a fighter who appears to be several levels below him in terms of skills). They need to bring him back very carefully from here & avoid punchers where they can. If they put him straight back in too tough, things will unravel very quickly. Get him some wins out here, establish some momentum, then go back over there. And fight on your own promoter's show, not someone else's.
