Joe would have got seriously hurt. Both men were totally exhausted but the difference was that Muhammad was an exhausted man who could still see out of both eyes but Joe could n't see the right hands coming that were smashing into his face. Eddie Futch did the compassionate and right thing for his fighter.

Muhammad Ali beating the temptation to carry on after Manila '75. Especially the last two sad fights.

Joe Frazier would have gotten hurt very badly if it had gone to the 15th round in Manila. It’s a myth that Ali wanted to quit, he’d have died before he quit, Frazier was blind, Ali had him reeling in previous rounds and Frazier didn’t deserve to go out on the canvas after his effort in that fight.

    Walcott vs. Marciano.
    Patterson vs. Ellis and Quarry
Honorable mention: Patterson getting out of the first round against Liston and taking him deep into the fight

I remember thinking Cotton beat Torres, I was watching it giving as much as I could to Torres because I liked him and wanted him to win.... eh I came away a fan of Eddie Cotton, fought like a real pro.

How about Holmes vs Tyson? he can avenge it right afterwards but then we are looking at the GOAT win at HW for The Homer! "Big Jack" etc it'd ruin the Tyson hype though, I think I'd prefer what we got tbh.

I wouldn't want to change any outcome, unless it was an unjust decision.

To take a recent example, Golvkin getting the nod in the first Canelo fight, changes the landscape, and probably for the better.

Sullivan knocks out Corbett, and then retires.

Lineage spoiled. Chaos. Permanent interregnum. :devil-king:

Golota vs Ruiz. I always felt that Golota got screwed in that fight. It would have been nice to see him win a belt, and see how long he could keep it.

I can think of two that just make me mad. Norton not being robbed against Ali -- Norton absolutely won that title off Ali and Ali got a gift. Larry Holmes not being robbed against Nielsen -- he absolutely won that one and should hold the record of the oldest world title holder ever of any weight class, yet he got hometowned. They robbed an ATG of the perfect cap to his career; infuriating when you think about it.

On a personal note, Edgar Ross beating Tony Chiaverini to see ‘Mad Dog’ get a junior middleweight title shot to see how he’d do (Tony was supposed to get one but took a bigger offer to fight Ray Leonard in a scheduled 10 and was outclassed) … but Ross vs a Rocky Mattioli or Maurice Hope might have been interesting.

I’d like to have seen Roberto Duran not quit the Leonard rematch just to see how badly he would have lost and whether he’d make it the full 15 rounds. I’m guessing the ref saves him as he’s listless and taking a beating somewhere around 11 or 12, but who knows?

Pat, you bring back memories on Mad Dog Ross. Back in the day, reading every magazine in sight, one develops a concept of how a fighter fought without actually seeing them live. And I really felt Ross was something else and thought he would beat Chiaverini. When I read how Tony completely outclassed him, all I could do was shake my head. The difference between a good fighter and a very good fighter. I thought Edgar would regroup but he called it a day. Good memories, though, of the Mad Dog.
