Typical. People just don't want to give credit to fighters that make fights close and competitive against their fighter.

Mayweather, Ward, and Marciano represents the ideal perfect record amongst modern boxing fans in the US where they are more fixated on the 0. One does have to wonder how boxing history would change if those 3 fighters ended up taking a loss in their career. How different would the mindset of boxing fans be right now? And how would a guy like Mayweather be able to handle a loss considering his obsession with being unbeaten?

The whole idea of remaining undefeated has become the new gold standard of being considered a truly great fighter in the eyes of fight fans now. So much so that it's put a negative impact on the sport to the point that fighters today are afraid to take a loss, not taking any risks to face top opposition that could potentially blemish their record, and being labeled as a hypejob or overrated by casual fans the moment a fighter taste their first defeat.

Then you also have today's top fighters where the majority of them are unbeaten (Usyk, Inoue, Crawford, Bam, Tank, Shakur, Benavidez). This current generation of boxing definitely latches on to the fighters with clean looking records. I'm curious which current crop of top fighters ends up taking a loss eventually and who remains unbeaten once they retire.

There is no metric by which Ward beat Kovalev. None. One of the worst robberies ever.

I actually think in some respects, Marciano would be more highly regarded. I think he would have beaten Valdez, Satterfield, Jackson and Baker without issue, and also Bobo Olsen and Charles III were looked at as potential opponents. Patterson only entered the division because Marciano was out...I think he would have went on for a good long time, provided his body held up, and even if he eventually took a loss, no real criticism of him would have been possible.

Yeah, he won like the first 5 or 6 rounds.

Keep in mind that people didn’t really know that Mayweather could go to the trenches and fight like James Toney back then, but that’s what he did.

Corrupt judging. Not the first time we have seen that.
