Another all time classic: "Every time he hit me he broke something." (Chuck Wepner describing his fight with Sonny Liston.)

Dempsey to his movie star wife Estelle Taylor after the second Tunney fight:
"Honey, I just forgot to duck."

Boxing manager Joe Jacobs asked by a reporter what he thought about watching his first baseball game on a cold October day, an event which he found to be quite boring compared to boxing : "I shoulda stood in bed."

Joe Jacobs after his fighter Max Schmeling lost the heavyweight title on a decision to Jack Sharkey: "We wuz robbed."

Muhammad Ali (then Cassius Clay): "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee."

    "Got any excuses tonight, Roy?"

What made Tarver's quote so memorable was everyone watching heard it. Everyone in the arena heard it, too.

Some famous quotes sound made up. Or we never actually heard the people say them, they're just part of Boxing lore.

But it was the last thing Tarver said to Roy Jones before Jones really lost for the first time. And just before we saw Roy knocked out for the first time, too.

It was such a brash thing to say. But Tarver knew it was his night, even if no one else did.

Joe Louis had a similar comment to this.

Louis had some good ones, between this and the iconic “he can run but he can’t hide”
