After destroying Macklin, GGG decides to move up to 168 pounds to face Froch. That night in November 2013, the Cobra faces Golovkin instead of Groves. How does this end?
Froch is a natural super middleweight, physically bigger than GGG. But GGG has a higher workrate and this could make the difference, since the Kazakh also had an Iron jaw (Froch the same). I say GGG on points (even more so in 2013, when Froch was no longer in his prime), not wide but clear.
Froch really is great at 168lbs, Golovkin is one of the greatest middleweights, but he never tested his abilities at 168lbs, he didn’t completely rely on his power, he could box and did have skill, but he certainly used his power and presence in there, and that is something which dissipates when you move up. I really am on the fence, but I think Froch might win and use his size to be able to out work him and use his size to neutralise Golovkin and Golovkin wouldn’t be able to break him as he did other guys, but he’d give Froch uncomfortable moments. Golovkin wouldn’t be able to use his work rate as well, because he kind of used it to break guys down, constant pressure in the front foot and walking through them, often walking through punches, he wouldn’t be able to do this as effectively here.
Froch is my single favorite fighter, but in a fight where neither man is getting knocked out I cannot see him outpointing a prime GGG.
As much as the sensible money was on GGG, he never really stepped up in weight till he absolutely had to. I think he suspected he wouldn't have been as effective at the higher weight. Froch had a massive reach advantage so he could get that jab going which could be very effective, his own good chin, excellent stamina and power. I'd lean towards GGG, but I don't think it's as open and shut as some people make it. It would have been a brutal fighter which ever way you swing it.
I am pretty sure GGG wins, possibly even by stoppage. Carl is very brave and that might be his downfall.
A bigger fighter's worse nightmare is a tougher, quicker body puncher. Carl is a big target and easy to hit, I think GGG wears him down and stops him.
ggg couldn't stop spaghetti legged glass chin Jacobs but he stops froch. Lol Everybody was laughing at Jacobs legs when he stepped on the scales. GGG was going to savagely sleep him everybody said. Bute was a devastating body puncher. Groves punched with blistering speed and brute power. No reason to believe GGG was more dangerous hitter at 168 than prime groves if you were there during his career
I have never once watched Carl Froch and I’ll shamelessly admit it’s because he’s weird looking to me.
Kessler was splitting Golovkin type opposition in half . Can't come close to getting a drop on Froch. GGG wouldn't fight prime Kessler. He probably wouldn't have fought prime Bute either . When GGG can't put away Jacobs who would undoubtedly be finished in 6 by Froch I can't help but laugh at the delusion that GGG would knock out Froch. Absolutely no reason based on reality to say GGG was more dangerous at 168 than George Groves. Speed plus power . Groves was highly dangerous GGG was wind up power. Great technique , hit very hard. But slow and he didn't wind up on guys who were good enough to hit him back.
