How was Spinks power at heavyweight

Spinks was an ATG puncher at light heavyweight. When he moved up, his punches didn't seem to hurt Holmes. Though that is understandable. Holmes chin was of ATG caliber when it came to surviving big heavyweight punchers. He survived Shavers, Cooney, Smith, Mercer, Holyfield, Norton and McCall. Only Shavers dropped him. And he was only stopped by prime 1988 Mike Tyson. So it's unsurprising that Spinks couldn't really hurt Spinks.

But Spinks did pummel Taangstaad into the canvas and he did stop Cooney. So how do you rate Spinks punching power at heavyweight?

 

Slightly above average at heavyweight

 

Closer to average for me.

 

A tad below average imo

 

The selling point for me is the finish of the Cooney fight where Spinks hit him with loads of flush power punches after dropping him twice and he stayed standing. He landed enough to stop 5 or more guys at 175. Cooney seemed totally with it when the fight was stopped.

 

Worst version of Cooney I’ve ever seen on film as well.

 

Cooney said as much. He was almost angry over it lol

 

Cobb once commented about how hard Spinks hit him in sparring.

I would say above average maybe a 6 if Spinks was fighting Heavyweights of similar size to him his power would be much more apparent.
