So embarrassing that he lost to JP. You can use age as an excuse but Foreman and Hopkins won titles close to his age. What’s even worse is JP held back hard and didn’t KO him because he knew the backlash would have been bad.
He was still a very good fighter up until 2000. Had he retired after the Golota fight he would've had a career record of 48 - 3 with 42 KOs.
He was just an overrated, flawed fighter who peaked when he was young, like Michael Owen did in football. He's mostly one for the casuals to talk uneducated about like he's this mythical monster who couldn't be beaten.
Yes he did. He got up and lost, but he did get up. Down in the first Holyfield fight in round 6. Loses in the 11th Down vs Lewis in the 8th (this one is questionable) loses in the 8th
He did destroy guys like Stewart and Savarese like they were nobodies. See how Holyfield and Foreman did against the same guys.
He was the greatest young fighter of his generation but careers are measured in their entirety and on that note, whilst Tyson was a great heavyweight he does fall some way short of the very top tier. As a cultural icon though, he is the biggest boxing icon since Ali with Foreman the only legitimate challenger to that.
