Frankie Gavin fighting bareknuckle (BKFC) on June 28th

Just seen on Instagram Lee Selby hinting at going in for it too.

 

For a fringe promotion they do seem to have a lot of fighters on the books. I think we have seen this business model before somewhere.

Gavin must be hard up, there must be easier ways to make a few quid.
Saw a photo of him a bit back and he looked old, like older than 39 or whatever he is.

 

I have followed BK in the UK for a few years now and i think its very entertaining. BKFC are the major promotion in the UK. Just the barbaric nature of it appeals to me and seeing how the ex pros get on also appeals to me. The production is always good and as soon as a fight is over the next lot are on the way to the ring, no Sweet Caroline or national anthems or half hour of waffle because a fight ended in a KO.
Not the most skilful viewing but its BK so just go out and slug it out and hope you KO your opponent before they KO you.
For anyone who has not watched it and likes a good old fashioned scrap its defiantly worth a watch.
Jack Cullen made his debut in march and looks very good. Frankie may also do well with his skill set.

From world amateur gold to the blood-soaked boards of BKFC.

Mad how the slickest southpaw of his generation — outboxed Khan, had world-level hands — is now trading knuckles in what’s basically a car park brawl with lighting. One step from a straightener on the cobbles, even Roy Shaw vs Lenny McLean had more glamour.

Boxing drags you through the dirt and makes you pay to watch, It guts your soul and still gets your money. And of course I’ll be watching — hoping it’s some kind of redemption arc for FunTime Frankie.

 

Taking about the name McLean using a football analogy, Frankie turned out more Kenny McLean than Iniesta.

 

Brutal — but fair. Thought we had an Iniesta…

But Funtime turned out more Charlie Nicholas and Frank McAvennie than Kenny Dalglish. Had the talent of a great, just not the discipline.

 

The talent of a great amateur boxer. He just didn't have the style or strength for pro boxing. As well as discipline yeah. I think even with discipline and fighting at the right weight, he'd still have fell a bit short of world level in the pros.

 

Cox was that kid from Swindon right ? He just fell off the face of the earth , I'd watch him .

As an amateur, I’d put Gavin right up there — maybe even above Amir, and Michael Conlan. Similar styles: slick, classy, not much pop. But just like Conlan got his chances at feather and super-feather, Gavin was often stuck fighting a division or two above where he should’ve been.

If he’d had the discipline — and camps were about improving, not just cutting weight — I honestly think he could’ve grabbed a version of the lightweight title. Especially when you look at the Brits from that era who got title shots and even picked up belts at 135 and even 140.

People forget — his diet was worse than Bakole’s half the time. The talent was real… the rest just never caught up, and never really improved once he turned over.
