Yeah around this time Ali wasn’t really Ali I think AJ is better in some ways then Norton and Lyle and good enough at this time in the great man’s life to get him.

    In 1975-76 it was….

Chuck Wepner - it’s Wepner LOL also he took him to the 15th…

Ron Lyle - not an overly good fighter, solid but he made Ali work harder then Foreman with just conventional boxing.

Bunger - who he already beat and had sparring partner syndrome…

Shot Frazier - Took him to the edge, almost quit. Fair enough.

    Coopman - he sucked

    Dunn - he sucked

    Young - he probably lost

    Norton - he probably lost

I’d be shocked to see AJ not come out of the fight at least looking decent, if not outright winning surely he’d do better than Lyle? He was at one time looked at as the best in the world.

Quarry wasn't known, particularly, for his dedication to training and he was known to like a drink and so on. It is very possible that, if he was the same size as Tyson Fury, that his results would be simialr.

He’d have beaten Wilder a lot easier at least? Jerry Fury still losses to Usyk but vs Klitschko? - good win, good fight at a minimum. If he had Quarry’s attitude “meanness” and competitive spirit especially it would reflect in his resume look at the contenders he fought!

@greynotsoold @Pat M what do you think? AJ of the 2nd Ruiz fight maybe AJ of the Wlad fight whichever good version you see fit vs Ali in 1975? How does AJ do is he remembered as a 70s Golden Era Demi God who’d be Joe Louis in another era?

I think we've discussed this before, but when I watched 21 year old Quarry (maybe cleaner living, or the life style hadn't affected him yet?) vs. Alex Miteff, he looked good. It might be the best version of Quarry I've seen. I think he weighed about 193, he wasn't carrying any fat, and he looked quick. Even in this type condition he might still have lost to Ali and Frazier but I have to think he would have done better overall.

Ali wasn't at his best for the Lyle fight and I personally wouldn't be surprised if Joshua did better or maybe even scored an upset. He's also got a psychological advantage. Imagine you're Ali, you're about to head out and fight Ron Lyle only to find out he's been replaced by 6'6 245 pound mildly annoying British guy who claims he's from the year 2018 and everyone is just letting this fight happen instead of figuring what's going on? I would certainly not have my head in the game if I was Ali.
