I wasnt sure which forum but here goes Boxers who are best at causing their opponent to lash out due to their trash talking towards them. Who is the king of snack talk? I'm gonna have to go with the man Bernard Hopkins; too many times, very many quotes. Here is some of his best: "I will never lose to a white boy" *Throwing down the Puerto Rican flag* And stuff he said that ruffled some feathers : towards Pascal " well Bernard is a good guy... Bernard is .... Gonna get messed up!" Jean Pascal was legitimately angered! Also towards tavoris cloud after the bout beating him , Hopkins had to rub in "you've been effed, you butt hurt." I think he said it in worse terms tbh. And then towards Jermaine Taylor camp: " well Bernard, we put our pants on the same way as in Philadelphia, one leg at a time " bhops was bragging about being from the tough streets of Philly instead of country bumpkin Jermaine from little Rock Arkansas. And of course after jt beat hopkins the first time "shut up Bernard, you're too old to be crying". Hopkins caused a lot of disarray, upon throwing down the pr flag he almost started a riot... After downtalking Calzaghe the result equalled he LOST the fight because if his war of words, meaning the judges were out to get him, understandably so , because he just rubbed everyone the wrong way. Other examples of bhops verbal physical prowess: doing pushups in the corner to prove to Jean Pascal he was ready to go 20 rounds, full of energy lol. Also ESPN beyond the glory: bhops story... Very interesting, almost as interesting as the version of the story that Hopkins tells from his lips, yes he jazzes it up a bit! Who in your opinion is the king of sh*t talking in the game of boxing??? Edit : I am not saying bhops deserved the loss to Joe because of racist talk, this is simply the version that Bernard tells.
I don’t know if he has more examples, but Tarvers “any excuses tonight Roy” is probably the single best line in trash talking history… timing, delivery, the way the fight went, it was gold.. Canelo is getting up there with his so-so English. Asking Crawford who he’s fought that’s elite.. Crawford: Postol! Postols not elite?! Canelo: *cuts him off* who?! who is that guy? *starts laughing* “I hope your uncle Turki Alashikh pay enough money because it’s gonna be your last.”
Ali was pretty bad, here's some examples Talking bout his fight with Joe Frazier calling him a gorilla "t's gonna be a chilla, and a killa, and a thrilla, when I fight the Gorilla in Manila" About Sonny Liston "He's too ugly to be world champion" About Floyd Patterson "I'll beat him so bad, he'll need a shoehorn to put his hat on" "im so mean i make medicine sick" "I am America. I am the part you won't recognize. But get used to me. Black, confident, cocky; my name, not yours; my religion, not yours; my goals, my own; get used to me." To me, he's the greatest trash talker
As far as current fighters go, I’d say Fury. And although not current, Prince Naz comes to mind, too. At least up to the Barrera fight
Tyson Fury has always been great at it. He’s easily the biggest personality in the sport since Mike Tyson. If you’re a promoter, he’s your dream fighter, because he does half the work for you. Just book appearances for him to show up at, no need for babysitting, he’s going to nail it every time. other than Fury though, there’s not much. Chisora can be good here and there. He’s got the old warrior laughing at the young punk act down well enough I guess. current scene is weird where you have killers in the ring who have no idea what to do at a press event. I guess credit to Dubois for being willing to say/do whatever his promoter tells him, even if he sucks at it.
Fury was great for some time, but recently his trash talk has become very forced and tiring. The first press conference for the undisputed fight against Usyk was his all time low. He was yelling cheap insults with no wit whatsoever.
Can't believe nobody is mentioning James Toney Sure nobody can understand him, but he is the definition of pure trash lol
Ricardo Mayorga. The things he would say to his opponents were both offensive and hilarious. Although there were times where he would take it too far such as when he taunted Cory Spinks by saying that he was going to kill him in the ring and send him to heaven to be with his dead mother. Bazooka Limón was also a trash talker who took it to an extreme when he told his opponent Bobby Chacon that his deceased wife was in hell and that he was going to send him there as well.
His constant need of trying to imitate Floyd Mayweather's persona and lifestyle, along with his embarrassing losses, trouble with the law and downward spiral makes it both funny and sad at the same time.
