How has Tyson Fury sacked fitness coach end up coaching AJ and some of the country’s biggest prospects when he is miles behind likes of McGuigan

Because he simply must be/is better than people slate him for.

Far too many top boxers want to work with him, for him to be called just a 'fitness coach'

He's not a Mcguigan, but he has had some good results.

When you listen to him talk, you can hear that he's knowledgeable.

I've never heard him say anything particularly profound or that implies he knows more than the average trainer. Has a bit of an arrogant streak about him too which rubs people (myself included if we're being honest) up the wrong way.

One positive thing I'll say though is he always has a good relationship with his fighters.

Got given a load of fighters by MTK and opened a gym using their money. Was originally called the MTK Performance Centre then renamed the Ben Davison Performance Centre when MTK closed down.

Think he's clueless personally. Whenever his fighters are losing he says the same thing "feints and fluidity". A lot of his fighters have got out of jail with one punch KO's (Wood v Warrington, Wood v Conlan, Wardley v Huni etc).

It’s like in football where fans are always baffled about how certain managers get jobs with clubs. On the face of it you might be baffled as an outsider but clearly they have something about them to impress sporting directors.

AJ has worked with top trainers domestically and stateside. He won’t be with Davison just because he’s a good laugh in the gym.

The only non-technical criteria that might affect a decision could be things like purse percentages and location.

Imagine having your instructions in between rounds to a fighter being called ridiculous live on a national radio station, by a rival coach, seconds before said fighter getting knocked out following your said instructions in front of 90,000 people. I used to get annoyed by Davison and his obvious grifting, but there comes a time you just have to admire the absolute brass neck of the fella. The guy has clearly been placed in a position he hasn't earned or proven himself worthy of, but that's how it goes in life.
