so in your estimation even AJ isn’t a SHW? Usyk (same size as Ali, Holmes, Norton, and Lyle) looks small standing next to AJ
People forget Lewis' career or just look back and see that he beat everyone he faced, but he should have lost to Mercer, was being pieced up by Bruno until Bruno gassed, was being outboxed by Vitali, was flat on his back v Rahman and McCall, yes he could beat everyone in this era but he could also be stopped by Kabayel or outboxed by Joshua/Fury. There's no way of knowing but I'd bet money on him ending with at least 2 losses.
He could always get caught McCall and Rahman style, but barring that hes beating everybody, most of them in dominant fashion. Usyk would give him a good fight though.
And AJ looks small next to Fury (280), Big Bang (280+) and Big Baby (300+). Whatever. Men are getting bigger in every sport. NFL offensive linemen used to be huge at 250, now most are 300+. Sooner or later boxing will get a Super HW division defined by a weight maybe 250+.
Yes, Mercer was definitely robbed, the same Mercer who lost to a 18-9 journeyman and then the following year fought to a draw vs a 7-9-2 journeyman not after he fought Lummox before he fought him.
Aj doesn't look small next to Fury. Only about 2 inches shorter with a little less reach. Remove the fat sacks of **** from Fury and Aj will be heavier than him. Fury has a very high body fat percentage
Fury, Big Bang and Big Baby are just incredibly fat. AJ has way more lean mass than all of them. Being fatter ≠ being the bigger man
Usyk boxes rings around Lewis. Too clever, too much Ring IQ, too consistent, too fast, too skilled. Usyk can adapt to anything, he's a boxing master. Lewis lost to ****ing Mccall, Rahman, and should have had a loss to Mercer.
What you expressed here is almost exactly the other part of what I feel about the potential matchup. Including Lewis as probably #1 all time H2H and Fury's two best versions being incompatible. But I feel like Fury is being underrated in hindsight nowadays (even though I admit he gave us a few reasons...) and wanted to make the case that Fury's boxer-mover version is at the very least competitive enough not to be dismissed outright. With the lack of power I think he might have compensated for that with movement and trying to tie him up when getting close. It's likely that he would have had trouble containing Lewis in the infight, but I would have liked to see that fight!
Don't ask me what tier I believe I reside on because it's an awfully long way down I have to peer to see the 2nd one
Bruno didn't gas vs Lewis he was on the attack whilst Lewis was in the corner and Bruno walked into a left hook that he didn't recover from and Lewis finished him off. Should've lost to Mercer ? You're implying that it's a foregone conclusion that Mercer definitely won when that isn’t true. More people had Lewis beating Mercer than losing and I personally scored it a draw. Lewis tried to slug with Mercer as he was trying to impress in America for a potential showdown with Tyson and it was the wrong tactic. Lewis got off to a bad start but regained in the 2nd half of the fight and had it been 12 rounds Lewis would've won more clearly IMO. Lewis was out of shape and at the end of his career vs Vitali and still won against a H2H nightmare in Vitali who was in his prime.
I get where you're coming from, I can't rate Fury quite that highly though - personally. If he'd pulled off that win, however stinky the style, against Wlad when Wlad was in his prime? And not hidden from the rematch? Maybe then I'd give him some chance against Lewis - even though I feel like stylistically it'd be more difficult to do it to Lewis. It might just be me, but winning that way in a changing of the guard fight where you're prime and taking on a declining champion makes things easier... And avoiding the rematch suggests there's something to hide, especially when you won as a big underdog. I'd have liked to see it, but with the realities of things as they are, I'd be very confident Lewis would've won.
Holyfield only looked truly good at heavyweight in the Tyson fight (at the highest level), he could not handle Usyk pace, barely throwing 40 punches per round and getting tired, Bowe or Vitali probably could keep a good pace agaiisnt Usyk and crack him, Lewis would have to be surgeon in there, wich he probably could be, Mercer bothered him hard with a jab, so Usyk would be a hard fight too probably.
