Is there a case for Dempsey beating Usyk?

Heavyweights with one punch power always have a shot to win because they only need to land ONCE.

On another note; who did Usyk fight that had that combo of aggression, speed, super heavyweight-shattering power and relentlessness toward the body? Jack probably threw more in accumulation to the body than any of Usyk's opponents have. You can find multiple opponents having those traits but a combination of them on Jack's level and with that sort of aggressive freight train type of style? He'd probably throw plenty more body and nut shots in the first 4 rounds than Fury or Dubois conbined.

With regard to struggling with Usyk's physicality, I don't recall Dempsey struggling with the size and strength of Usyk sized fighters? I've seen klompton make the claim that he did against Firpo but I don't see it, and size and strength are pretty much all Firpo brought to the table. The same can apply to old man Willard who I didn't notice use his physical and strength advantages with any success. Surely even a dissipated fat Willard would be able to bully Jack with his strength and size in the clinch?

Who was he throwing these shots at? A bunch of breadliners, panhandlers, rodeo stars, a French Cream puff who started at bantamweight... Nobody basically? It's easy to be aggressive against chumps.

When you look at a linear scale of boxing ability, way, way down on the "I can't box at all and am the predecessor of a tough man competitor" pole you see Firpo... at the other end, miles away, the one labeled "Top-End Matrix Level Southpaw" you find Usyk. These aren't even the same species, so please not to compare.

Bivol got too much twitch, too light a feet, too disciplined, too consistent and just as tough as Jack. Jack didn't like boxers too much. He preferred wharf brawlers and guys who would rather be roping steers.

    We are talking sheer physicality though;

Like I said the only things we can really compliment Firpo and Willard on are their size and strength and I didn't notice any instance where their significant physical superiority had an effect on Dempsey's ability to carry out punishment on the inside.

You've got one part of that wrong....Jack's preference of victims included blown up light heavys. If Bivol found a 40 year old Beterbiev overwhelming in those middle rounds before Artur gassed then I see him sharing a similar fate to Gibbons or maybe even Levinsky.

Firpo had no skill. Willard had limited skill. Usyk has top level ATG skill.

Size amplifies skill. Do the math.

Sheer physicality in the ring can only be measured by the canvas upon which it is painted, i.e. the opponent and their skill level. Physicality does not exist in a vacuum. Jack tries that act on a modern skilled heavy and they are countering his head off.

None whatsoever. Usyk fights fights EVERYONE, and wins.

And also how they use they size, many modern fighters even at heavyweight concede in the clinch and merely wait for the ref to break it up. Sure, Usyk is far more active on the inside than most but I don't recall him using his weight and strength in a clinch much aside from using his elbows to try to prevent others like Fury from putting their weight onto him. It's been a minute since I've seen Usyk at cruiser but I don't remember him actually using his strength and size against his opponents much when he had a size advantage. Sure Usyk can and would counter Dempsey on the inside but would he really be getting that physical with his size advantage aside from if Dempsey for some reason tried imposing his size in a clinch? Dempsey and Fury used the clinch in very different ways after all

Good Lord, don't be dense. Usyk would be 220 and not fight out of necessity like he had to against Fury and Dubois and Joshua. And believe me, mass moves mass. Usyk could do all he wanted to, inside and out, and catch Jack in each sloppy transition he makes, each time he loses focus, each time he squares up...

I love Jack Dempsey and he probably would have been a different product with modern training, a modern career, but as he is on film, despite him being a pioneer, there are serious lapses.

Dempsey for what you may think was a twitchy MFer with the power to put out 240lbs guys famous for there durability factually... JD was a man killer with his hands, a genuine athlete Bivol is a tap, tap amateur who should be glad it isn’t the 40s-50s with killers like Charles waiting behind a rose bush we’d have never heard of Bivol he doesn’t have what it takes for the real pro league back then, pros fought like pros not Olympians fighting twice a year.

Dempsey used the clinch in a different way to how Fury did though, he still found ways to exploit openings even in spite of being the physically weaker and smaller man. Fury wanted to merely bully and use his own strength and size to tire Usyk but that's not comparable to Dempsey's game who was more versatile inside and would be throwing much more leather inside than even a peak Fury from Wilder 2 would have.

Obviously that's attributable to Willard, Morris, Firpo etc not near Usyk's level but you need to really get ugly and handsy to nullify someone like Dempsey on the inside. What examples do we have of Usyk using his size and strength in the clinch to bully or to nullify offense? I don't doubt he's done it I just can't think of instances or fights in particular, the instances I can think of are, like I said, stopping Fury from being a size bully with his elbows. He seems much more reactive against a size bully than proactive to bully against a freight train.

There are combinations Dempsey made famous I’ve only seen 130lbers pull off “these” days “rudimentary” is BS.

OK. point them out. And remember it's easy to throw crazy combos against rudimentary opponents. Against defensibly responsible opponents it's a different story.
