His losing title challenge made The Ring Fight of the Year. He was one of my Old Mans favorites.

and my old man who swore by him.he seems to have been largely forgotten about now,i suppose buchanan coming just after him doesn't help, but charnley really was a helluva lightweight.

I saw Conteh stop Len Hutchins at the Liverpool stadium as a 12 year old, the atmosphere was electric.
As for my ticket, I'd go for Buchanan when he was making waves in The States and Puerto Rico.

    Nigel Benn - Chris Eubank.

Or Benn against one of the top american middleweights from that era.

Well, seeing as someone else has decided ot pick an actual bout, I'm going to do the same.

For me, it would be Pat Cowdell challenge to Salvador Sanchez for the FW title. For those of you who have not seen the bout, Pat put up a massive challenge, but just came up short.

The great Sanchez gave Cowdell massive credit after the bout. Sanchez won by SD, but knew he had been in a real tough battle.

If its bouts without knowing the fight outcome or the way the fight panned out...

    Lewis V Bruno

    or Benn V Eubank

No actually, an easy winner for me - Bruno V Tyson 1, the build up to that was the biggest I have ever experienced in the UK. As a kid I was a wreck before that fight.
