Bruno vs McCall springs to mind…they’d trained together for years. Bruno regularly namechecked him as his best sparring partner as far back as ‘89 when preparing for the first Tyson fight, six years before they fought for McCalls title.

 

Ali vs. Blue Lewis, and Lewis gave a decent account of himself in the fight.

 

Holyfield vs Bowe (lucky he caught old Holyield, who wiped the mat with him in sparring)
Holyfield vs Tyson (lucky he didn't catch young Holyfield, who did whatever he wanted against Tyson in Olympic tryouts.. when Holyfield was a light heavyweight)

Not exactly what the thread asks but it reminds me of a story, and I suspect at some point these guys did spar each other.

USA Tuesday Night Fights (or maybe it was ESPN?) had a main bout fall out and they were looking to put something together on short notice, like a week or so out. Someone suggested Jesse Ferguson vs Oliver McCall — guaranteed rounds, good heavyweights who were at the time on the fringe between journeymen and contender.

They scramble around and find Jesse is in camp with someone as a sparring partner (maybe it was Lennox or Tyson, some big name, can’t remember who) and get a number to reach him.

So they call and ask Ferguson if he’d fight McCall for whatever amount. He said ‘sure..’ They asked, ‘Do you think Oliver will take it?’ He says, ‘We’re playing cards right now, I’ll ask him — hey Oliver, you want to fight me on TV next week? OK. Yeah, he’ll do it.’

I love this story.

 

Douglas and Tucker sparred many times before fighting for the IBF title.

 

It seems almost everyone has sparred everyone else these days at the elite level. Wlad sparring with Joshua, Fury Thomson, and Wilder comes to mind.

 

Where did you get the story on Tyson and Holyfield sparring multiple times and Holyfield dominating ... I've read many other sources and the same story is that they sparred once , it was too heavy for sparring ... I never heard anywhere they sparred multiple times nor that Holyfield had his way with him ...

 

Simon Brown and Maurice Blocker. They were best friends and had sparred together many times, and figured they might as well get paid for it.
