Undercard roundup, as we approach the prelims kicking off:

• Niall "The Power" Brown, a former Muay Thai champion now 15-0 in Western boxing, tests his mettle with Moldovan-German glass cannon Victor "Gorylla" Ionascu in the other corner.
  
  
• Aussie southpaw Skye Brittany Nicolson looks to rebound from her first loss, taking on Bolivian kayo artist Carla Camila "La Princesa" Campos González.
  
  
• William Crolla, the kid brother of "Million Dollar" Anthony Crolla, takes a step up against Scottish fellow lefty Fraser Wilkinson.
  
  
• 6'6" Mancunian banger and member of last year's GB Olympic squad Patrick "Bomber" Brown laces up for his third professional outing against 6'3" Buckinghamshireman and late bloomer Lewis "Mighty Oak" Oakford in a battle of cruiserweight giants.
  
  
• "Ambush" Aqib Fiaz (trained by Jamie Moore) vs. "Super" Alex Murphy (replacing Michael Gomez Jr. on 12 days' notice) in a battle of featherfists with identical 13-1 records.

Overall? Meh, have sat through worse.

And knowing what lies ahead in the main event, I'll cherish every moment that isn't ...that.

Niall Brown vs. Victor Ionascu, 6 rounds @ super middleweight

 

Starts out a slow waltz and jabbing duel in ring center but Brown takes over with heavy straight right hand leads by the second minute. Ionascu dumped on his ass moments before the bell (and then saved by it during the ref's count) by a swift left hook as Brown is strafing.

10-8 Brown, this won't last very long.

 

Brown unafraid to quadruple on that powerful and neatly turned over left hook...leaving himself wide open but using his offense as defense. Ionascu forced to shell up in retreat and the shots are still crashing through.

 

Interesting that Brown has a fairly conventional looking boxing stance. Usually when guys cross over from MT kickboxing they retain a lot of the core habits & postures from that sport for their entire careers.

 

Brown appears to be a MUCH bigger hitter than his 15-0 (5) record suggests.

Upon inspection, lots of his opponents have been very tough sorts. e.g. Jordan Grannum - 12-164-5, but only ever knocked out thrice.

 

Gorylla needs to sell out and hope to land a lucky shot. A decision is already out the window and he's increasingly at risk of being ground down and slept himself.

Oops, meant to post that early in R4 and forgot to hit submit. He did survive the fourth but got absolutely battered, dropped with more of those hooks in multiples, and then quit on his stool.
