Could Mayweather have won a title at 160?

I agree with those who say that Mayweather could have beaten middleweights who won a world title like Sylvester and Zbik, very good but not great fighters. Floyd in the middleweight weight class for me would have won even with De La Hoya and Cotto, who he defeated in the superwelterweight division.

Instead, De la Hoya in my opinion was not good as a middleweight and against Sturm he clearly lost. I always thought that that verdict (and that title) was a gift for the Golden Boy, for which the superfight with Hopkins was already ready.

He would’ve beaten Darren Barker probably.

If Mayweather thought he could win a belt up at 160 he would have went for it simple as that tbh !

Could Floyd have beaten GGG, MW Canelo, Jacobs? How about Prime Sergio Martinez?

Floyd didn't seem too keen on fighting Martinez when he was asked about it. He was already in "catch"weather mode by them. I don't see how Floyd would be able to deal with Prime pre-knee injury Sergio. Sergio would seem to be all wrong for Floyd. The movement, the athleticism.

I think he could but no one was going to accept him beating anyone at middleweight who wasn't the guy there. That is what Floyd was unsure about because Floyd never even made the junior middleweight limit. The most he ever weighed fighting at 154 was 151. Then he would weigh exactly the same on fight night. A lower level middleweight he could overcome that. A top middleweight (Martinez and GGG) rehydrating up to 170-175 pounds is a lot to overcome.

LOL There are only 2 other guys that have gotten more belts in diffrent divisions than Mayweather and he beat both of them. You saying he didn't challenge himself would be like me saying Lomachenko didn't challenge himself because he never moved up and fought Crawford at 147.

There's levels. There's challenging yourself then there's daring to be great. Floyd or Loma have never dared to be great like Canelo and now Bud has.

I've long maintained and I still maintain that the 147 version of Floyd would spark any version of Roy out cold. So to answer you question. Absolutely he could've

Yes... just depends who he was matched against. Only ones Id really pick against him confidently would be Golovkin and Pavlik.

I think he has a chance against JT and Martinez.

Yeah, Floyd was known to get a surprise from fast southpaws, even if he dominated them… otherwise.. Getting a surprise from a dynamite punching southpaw who’s much bigger is something he probably wouldn’t be able to recover from, lol.

    @IntentionalButt
Pirog is one of the best examples of it taking many intangibles to become a great fighter.

He is one of the most talented and gifted fighters I’ve ever seen, having ring IQ, versatility, power, toughness, defense…… hard to think of an ring quality that he didn’t seem to have….

    ….yet injuries ruined his career…

Still one of the most pleasing fighters to watch, it’s a damn shame he didn’t get to do more.

Golovkin would've beat Mayweather like he beat Brook, far too big and technically good, Golovkin was one of the most avoided middleweights of all time for a reason. Floyd would've tried to boil him down to 152 before even entertaining that fight.

Unpopular opinion: the way I feel about Mayweather is that he took more risks than Terrence Crawford. Terrance is stale on the shelf. Money may took on all comers... Just because he's moving up in weight significantly for the Canelo fight, c'mon his many people have I heard actually disrespecting Canelo as a boxer? Plenty, he gets a lot of hate so all of a sudden he's a prime player in the game?

What about he's too short, he cherry picks, he's on roids, he's past his prime, yadda yadda yadda. Personally I feel Canelo is a great fighter BUT Floyd Mayweather rose to the occasion many more times than Terrence Crawford.

I always respected Canelo Alvarez. He was always appreciative in interviews while mentioning the reverence for all the Mexican greats before him. He was a stud. Beside Pacquiao, he was my number 2 guy to watch and keep an eye on for all his upcoming fights. In fact it puzzles me? No credit for knocking out Kovalev? He should get props for his collection of names on his resume, a nice guy who fought all challenging opponents.

While were talking about Floyd, yes he did take risks...

Sergio was there fresh off the leg injury after Chavez and the controversial decision vs Murray. Floyd missed out on the same opportunity Miguel Cotto willingly ran to knowing that Sergio was finished.
