Both get criticised for their chins, probably overly sometimes, in my view. But who do you think has the better one?
Lewis can take a better shot than AJ. Would AJ have taken the shots that Vitali was dishing out in Lewis’ last fight. Not a chance.
Lewis, Lewis got careless and stopped by Rahman, who was pretty much nothing bar being a big, strong guy with a big right hand. Mccall was a good puncher, not in that elite killer bracket but a big skilled guy, he stopped Lewis and Akinwande, neither got stopped often AJ got bounced by Ruiz, a relatively sharp puncher but not a huge hitter. Dropped hard by an ageing Wlad but did get up but needed an age to recover, and folded over by DD and down multiple times. AJ has only had 28 fights. Stopped twice, so not bad but Lewis had 44 fights
AJ never got one-shot like Lewis did twice. He was really only stopped or dropped on accumulation. I don't think Lewis could have taken the Wlad right hand that AJ did and I think Lewis would have been stopped earlier had Dubois hit him with everything he hit AJ with. AJ has a very shaky chin and bad recovery, but he does get up when hurt. Lewis had a glass chin and stayed on the canvas when put there.
AJ couldn`t have taken all the shots Lewis took from Mercer, that fight proved Lewis had a better chin than Morrison it also proved Lewis had heart, AJ doesn`t like fighting on the inside, he ran from Ruiz while Lewis went toe to toe with Mercer.
Lennox got knocked out by Rahamn and McCall but otherwise his chin held up just fine. He could be expected to beat someone like a Bruno, Tyson, Briggs etc. With AJ don't really think that. He was able to beat guys like Ngannou and Breazeale with no issues who had real power. Thats about it. With Lennox his chin is more "not a strength" than a weakness.
I've seen Lennox take some decent shots AJ just pulls stupid faces and is proud of himself when he manages to handle a big shot then gets slapped over the next round
The Joshua of four or five years ago had a decent chin. Never was One Hit & That’s It. Lennox was. But with Joshua, It was his panic mode he went into that was the main problem. And that seemed to start in the Ruiz fight after that first left hook to the temple. He seemed to not know how to handle it. Now?? Yes his chin seems to be shot. He’s been through a lot of wars now. Hard to believe the wear & tear he’s been through since the Wlad fight. He had the disaster against Ruiz but seemed to bounce back good from that. Looked pretty sturdy against Pulev. And Pulev did hit him pretty well a few times. But I believe the Usyk losses took their toll on him and those were the real turning points. 24 rounds of getting popped by Usyk has to take it’s toll. But anyone that’s able to actually get up from that Wlad 6th round right hand… doesn’t have a bad chin. There was a turning point where it went to ****. We saw it.
There's a cult around Lewis and people don't want to accept reality. AJ clearly has a better chin. People are making excuses for Lewis. 'Oh, he just got caught, that's all'. Yeah, it's the same with everyone, they get caught. But most don't die with one punch against people who aren't Wlad or Wilder etc. AJ didn't get KO'd by Ruiz, he 'got caught', then got battered for numerous rounds then quit, that's not a chin issue really. Besides that he only got KO'd by Dubious, who is thought to be a big puncher. If Lewis's 'decent chin' is built around the Vitali fight then it's laughable. Vitali is NOT Wlad. He was underpowered at SHW and could not properly stop plenty of people. Others he couldn't even get a TKO despite hitting them in the head for 12 rounds. Let's have a look at AJ's opponents. AJ has been clipped by Whyte, Wlad, Povetkin. Could Lewis survive those hits? He doesn't survive the Wlad LH counter and then the RH that put AJ down, the others he'd be in big trouble. Not only does AJ have a better chin than Lewis, so did Wlad. There is absolutely no way Lewis survives all the shots Wlad took from AJ and could remain on his feet at the end. Face it, Lewis is chinny, especially for a massive superheavyweight of the time.
He did well to get up and was composed enough to survive but Wlad failed miserably in what should have been a finishing stage, totally pathetic big robotic bum who is too used to pushing midgets over. AJ just sat on the ropes whilst Wlad tried to line up his telegraphed left hooks which AJ easily avoided then they clinched and Wlad found out yet again he can't manhandle big men the midget pushing bum. If there is anyone is dislike more than AJ it's got to be Wlad. Anyway AJ should have finished him earlier in that fight also but played safe for some reason and the bell helped. Thankfully he didnt or he would have been hyped to high hell.
