Lewis is more proven taking multiple shots and coming back to win in tough fights. But....Joshua got up from huge single right hands from Dubois, Wladimir, that Lewis may of stayed down from. But.....I also don't think Joshua could've took multiple shots from the likes of Mercer, Bruno, Vitali, and comeback and won. So it's kind of a weird double edged sword between the two.
I don't think either of them had abysmal chins. Let's be honest: average for heavies. Anybody can be KOd by a big puncher throwing a punch that ya just don't see.
Hi Buddy. Personally I don't think Lewis had a glass chin, as you infer, and in the Mcall fight he didn't stay on the canvas, he was trying to get up almost immediately, and was on his feet around the 7 count, granted he was on the floor after the Rachman punch, and pretty much stayed there, what puzzles me is, you must have seen his fights with, Mercer, Tau, and Morrison, where he took almighty wallops from all the above, in particular the Mercer war, so I honestly can't understand the " Glass chin " tag, you have been her a while now, and have posted some of the most informative and enlightening posts I have read, so I am perplexed when you claim such, if that's your opinion, then so be it, and I respect all and every posters thoughts and opinion, so no being dismissive of your mind set , just a wonderment that's all. stay safe DG, chat soon buddy. Mike.
Lewis isn't getting hurt by Whyte or Povetkin. He isn't getting dropped by a 41 year old 2-year-lay off Wlad either. And he sure as hell isn't getting bounced around like a basketball by Andy Ruiz. AJ would get broken to pieces by Vitali, could never brawl like that against Mercer without getting laid out and I'd like to see him try and take some of the left hooks Lewis ate against Tua.
While neither fighter has a great chin, the difference between the two is that one has the MIND of a fighter, and the other is prone to panic. If Joshua gets hit hard he needs almost four rounds to recover. I've never seen anything like it. His level of comfort in the ring is so low. Half of taking shots is mindset and it's clear that he does NOT want to be in there for anything but a pile of gold on a path perfectly designed for him.
Glass might not be the right word but there really isn't enough verbiage to accurately describe a lot of stuff in boxing, including chin qualities and types. What I was trying to get across more so was just that the two of their chins were of different types. AJ can be wobbled quite frequently and then exacerbates this by freaking out and getting in his own head. He got dropped fairly often but has weathered shots from big punchers so, imo, has a shaky chin. Lennox has also taken big shots, and it's true that you don't really get anywhere at HW without a solid jaw, but his KO losses, to me, indicate that he can be hurt in a more conclusive and concussive manner than we've seen AJ decked imo.
AJ wouldn`t have taken Mercer`s power and isn`t tough enough to fight on the inside, look at the war Lewis had with Briggs.
Lewis was less hurt than Joshua vs Ruiz and Dubois in the Mccall fight. The difference was that one was allowed to continue and even given extra time to recover.
