They hire randoms who are not qualified for the job. Back in the day to be a commentator, you needed the voice for it, the ability to add color, an engaging personality. Now you don't. Lampley had it all, also the classic tv man look, very sharp, with class. Now we got bums. its amazing they can't find remotely good because the whole crew sucks in general. rag tag bunch who can't even dress properly.

Yeah, man. Oh more than one occasion, I've seen him cry talking about the sport. The love of boxing is very much in Lampley's blood.

I thought it was pretty cool on the Rogan podcast, how he was talking about his mum being a fight fan and introducing him to the sport. Pretty unique I would have thought especially back in those days.

Promoters running the whole show and hiring their buddies where as back in the day, the networks hired the talent, he spoke about that on Rogans podcast. I couldn't agree more, their ****ing terrible now. You hit the nail on the head too, the voice and ability to make it as entertaining as possible. The really great sports commentators of the past weren't ex fighters, they were color commentators who had charisma. Expert comments / analysts, yes, use ex fighters with some intelligence and personality but the blow by blow callers, find a tv professional with enough knowledge about the sport and a bit of pazzazz about em.
