We have certain fighters who build their reputation off the notion that they are being "avoided" because they are so much better than not only the fighters climbing the rankings, but the elites who hold the titles as well.

Jaron 'Boots' Ennis has been exposed for fabricating that so many fighters are avoiding him over the years. HIs diehard followers run with the same energy in boxing conversations, yet, no one could ever get any evidence of someone actually turning down any offer to face Ennis.

On the flip side, Ennis has been confirmed by himself, his father/trainer, and the WBO sanctioning body to have turned down 2 title opportunities vs Crawford. Confirmed on camera by Bozy Ennis (father/trainer) stating loyalty to Showtime.....

Fast forward to today......news has just leaked that Jaron Boots Ennis has turned down $6.5M offer to fight Virgil Ortiz at 154lbs. Stating they want either a tune up fight first at 154 or up the offer to $10M..........WHAT?...

A man who claims he would fight any and everybody anywhere and that he is avoided, has shot down the largest offer of his career vs multiple big name opponents now. And now he has Keith Thurman calling his bluff, since Ennis and his fans claim Thurman avoided him at 147......Thurman has openly said, 'send the contract'.......he wants Boots at 154lbs.

A Thurman fight would be a good tune up for the new weight. He could make a lot if money at 154. Tszyu, Crawford and Ortiz money would set him up for the rest of his life.
To your point, not a good look passing on Bud and pricing himself out of the Ortiz fights looks very bad.

Ortiz is more of a boogeyman in my mind than Boots. 91% KO ratio. High risk, low reward.

I’d actually bet on Boots winning that one.

Ortiz is from my state! So I’d love to see it.

Correct. The Thurman fight is perfect for his current status. And it is intriguing for fans because it answers questions for both fighters.

On one hand we have a young could be star looking to solidify himself as an elite moving into a new weight class that he claims he will be stronger in and wouldn't have the same struggles he showcased as a welterweight.....

Then on the other hand, we got an old dog who has been inactive for the better half of a decade fighting just 4x in the last 6/7 years. Still showcased he can be legit competition in the ring even though he has his prime years in the rear view.

Thurman, love him or hate him, is great for TV. He can sell a fight. I've always said that once he does decide to hang up the gloves, he shouldn't walk away from the sport. Promoting and/or commentating should be in his future, lisp and all. Ennis, though talented, hasn't been able to market himself in a way that fans want to run to see him. Trying to sell that 'I'm being avoided' only works when you have nothing to lose and you are calling out accomplished fighters. Now you are a world champ and have status.

This is an intriguing match up because of the strengths and weaknesses of each fighter in and out the ring. I PRAY TO GOD (and I'm not a religious individual) that this fight is next for both. Does Thurman still have greatness in those gloves..... Does Ennis actually have what it takes to be great in his gloves........ Both questions can be answered in this 154 match up.

$6.5 mil means he is set for life, will never have to worry about money again. I will never understand guys turning down such purses.

Booty Anus is one of the most overrated fighters fighting right now. Massive weight bully that gets clocked by shots from little dudes that someone at his supposed caliber shouldn't be. What a fraud.

I've seen that, after payouts to promoters, trainer, and the taxman, they may take home 35%-40% of that. So that's more like 2.5mil landing in the account. Which, ok, invested safely and properly, would set you up to live decently for the rest of your life, but nothing special if you want the money to never run out. 2.5mil at age 35 isn't the same thing at 2.5mil at age 65.

    1. If they funnel the purse through their own "promotional" company, then they get to keep a fair bit more.
https://www.instagram.com/bootspromotions/?hl=en Boots seems to have one of these.
    2. Say he takes home 3.5mil. That 3.5 invested into the S&P 500 would be yield around 40k a year in dividends. But invested into SCHD it could bring home over 100k a year.
    3. Boots has already made some money. He would undoubtedly have more paydays in the future. This payday would set him up for life, if he has any brains.
