Had Corrie Sanders met up with Ray Mercer around 1994-95, who would’ve won?

I was thinking about this fight earlier and how much fun it would’ve been had things back then worked out that The Sniper fought Mercer around this timeframe. Corrie was still in his boxer/puncher days and I think Ray was Tailor-made for him with his come forward style but I also can envision fireworks in this one and Mercer creating moments when Sanders would have to bite down and blast his way outta trouble and get Ray’s respect. Which he no doubt would imo!

I see a fun and competitive fight where both guys might have to climb off the deck. Yes I absolutely think Sanders sneaky power could drop Ray. Not sure about starching though. lol That’s a tall order with Mercer chin but if there ever was a HW that had the ability to shock Mercer with a big shot he never saw coming and dropping Ray for a 10 count it would be a fine tuned and ready Sanders. Mercer had the ability to stop Corrie too of course. But I lean towards the better more power boxer in Sanders in this one.

I think it’s very possible Sanders steam rolls Mercer… fast, awkward and one of the hardest punchers I’ve ever seen.

Sanders steals the early rounds, but Mercer is staying in there, he’s just not getting taken out early, and when Sanders slows down, his feet become more stationary, Mercer gets inside, starts to land clean punches on Sanders, Sanders now has nowhere to go and Mercer stops Sanders late.

The boxer version of Sanders beats Mercer.

Mercer has always been a leadfoot and Sanders at the time was fast of hand and foot.

Ironically the better known version of Sanders, the guy that went out to blow guys away fast so that he could hit the golf course, would probably do worse. If there is a list of guys with chins hard enough to eat Corrie's power punches and stay vertical, Mercer would be on it.

So I'd favour early Sanders on points, and later Sanders runs a risk of blowing his wad and getting stopped.

It would be a replay of Corrie Sanders-Nate Tubbs.

    Mercer KO 2.

If sanders decides to box ( which he could ) he might win a decision. He had fast hands, south paw style and decent movement. But if he starts trading with Mercer he probably gets stopped at some point.

I like Mercer. Mercer had a much superior chin to the Wlad that fell to Sanders. He's not blasting Mercer out.
