Best fight you’ve ever seen live/in person (as in you were in the arena vs TV/streaming)

I was actually talking to my Pop yesterday about how we came up during such a hot period for boxing and a few of the shows we went to and we talked about Holy-Qawi. First thing he said: That is without question the best fight I’ve ever seen with my own eyes.

Then he talked about how much better 15 rounds was for deciding a world championship and how Qawi really tried to pick it up and press the young pup Holyfield in those championship rounds and how Evander just kept answering with more.

For me, it was Jack Cohen 3-0 (3 KOs) vs. John Pawlowski 0-1 at the Seminole Casino in Coconut Creek, Florida in 2003. It looked like it would be an easy win for the hometown guy Cohen for the first couple of rounds, but Pawlowski rocked him badly with an uppercut in the 3rd round, and Cohen looked shaky for the rest of the fight (4 rounder), but was firing back. Great exchanges in the last couple rounds especially. Was sitting among a bunch of Cohen supporters and thought I was going to go deaf from them screaming their encouragement. Felt like they pushed him to the finish line. Mercer, Moorer, and Friday Ahunanya were on the same card, but the two novices mentioned above stole the show without a doubt IMO. I've seen plenty of better fighters than those two, but can't think of a more exciting fight that I've seen in person.

I wrote this years ago, but here goes. Liston fight; it took me like 15 or 20 years to finally figure this out. I was 6. Had been to see Floyd workout pre-fight. Was only like 60 miles away & my dad loved him and certainly did not like Liston. Just assumed Floyd would win---after seeing him on the heavy bag and those fast hands at the speed bag was extremely impressive to a young kid. How could he lose?

The only way I got to go to Chicago to see it was this---not for my benefit. No way!!!! Figured it out much later----my dad having a 6 year old was a boat anchor for him doing anything. how can he with a 6 year old? And after Floyd got destroyed like that it was a long drive back home. And believe me----totally unnecessary to go to the rematch.

But I got to go to be a major pain in the ass at the least and a huge boat anchor as a minimum. But my grandfather had been to Dempsey fights and took my father to a Joe Louis bout when he was a young boy. Cannot recall the opponent, so maybe my dad did something nice for like the only time he ever would.

My hands still hurt for clapping > that devastating Lyle ko in front of his hometown crowd. What a moment and can never ever forget it.

And Shavers was coldcocked about like Tate against Weaver. He went down like he was shot. Should have heard that punch from like a block away. The sound of that punch and the effects. Wow.

Sort of a minor miracle Shavers was able to rebuild himself and his career after that brutal of a loss.

But that experience live---and like 98% were pulling for Ron Lyle and he had climbed off the deck himself. That crowd went nuts. For about 5 minutes or more. It was a bout like the recent dubois/joshua bout going in===no way it goes the distance and somebody is losing and losing badly.
