If Boxxer had a deal agreed, that couldn't be announced before 1 July, you'd think it would be done now? Also - Eubank JNR come out and said he has no relationship with Boxxer. Perhaps he just has the Sky deal that has been mentioned before
I never really brought that end of contract as an announcement date, given both Matchroom and Queensberry announced their DAZN deals when they still had plenty of dates left with Sky and TNT. If Boxxer had a nailed down, guaranteed contract with somebody we’d either have heard officially, or really strong rumours of who it was by now. Seems like they either don’t have anything in place, or there’s still negotiations ongoing and things aren’t finalised yet. Given the notice Sky would’ve given them of not renewing, either of those scenarios aren’t really a good look as you’d expect them to have announced something by now.
Yeaj if it was really good, I think we would know already. They've basically got Ben Whittaker and a couple others. I don't see why you would he in a hurry to give them a TV deal. I wanted to like Ben, but I think he is absolutely dreadful at his job
Ben Shalom hasn’t got a tv deal has he ? Sky are leaving boxing aren’t they ? The future of boxing in Britain is in the hands of DAZN isn’t it ?
I wouldn't be remotely surprised to see Sky start some kind of women's boxing setup and feature that exclusively - Taylor will retire soon and won't leave DAZN in a particularly strong position and the other promoters would probably go "non exclusive" for women's events since DAZN has no real interest in it.
That will be for women’s boxing only. The BBC think that’s the pinnacle of the sport. After Lauren Price’s last fight their headline on their website was ‘ Is Lauren Price the best Welsh fighter in history ? ‘ ffs . So much for Shalom saying that he had a tv deal lined up that would be announced after 30 June. Complete lies from the fella. Even DAZN don’t want him and they’ll show any ****. Four years ago he was handed the chance to take over boxing which he ruined mainly by over investing in women’s boxing. Looks like now they are all he’s got left.
He really does just speak absolute drivel. Like the earliest they can realistically do another show is probably October now? So all his fighter will be sat dormant for 6 months at least.
There's zero doubt in my mind Sky imposed the women's boxing from the day they got into Mikaela Mayer and Natasha Jonas on commentary. Both fighters got heavily pushed (partly because of Sky's deal with Top Rank bringing Mayer to the table I guess). BBC would lap it up.
The Beeb won’t care what it is if it’s iPlayer only, as they won’t pay rights fees for iPlayer-only content. Or at least they didn’t a few years ago when I was working on a sports event that had a go at streaming on it, can’t imagine that has changed. All production will be managed by Boxxer, iPlayer just shows the feed you give them. Suppose Shalom needs to weigh up whether the ‘kudos’ of being (very loosely) associated with the BBC is better than whatever ad revenue you can bring in from streaming on YouTube. Which is what all small sports without TV deals need to do, and they usually take the YouTube option these days.
