I think Tszyu was a very good fighter, but he was handled very poorly. In the match after his first career loss, against Fundora by SD in a bloody mask, he fought a truly tough guy like Murtazaliev. A truly poor choice, Tszyu should have found a suitable opponent to come back from a defeat and thus prepare for the rematch with Fundora. Instead, the Australian suffered a heavy defeat that likely ended his career at the highest level.
Sports journalism is a third world cartel here. Tim's in the club . Kambo was a guest for a bit. Poor Skye and Opetaia are stuck in no man's land sadly.
He has some flaws the above average fighters can and will exploit. His defense can stand to be tightened up. When he gets hurt, his survival skills are nowhere to be found. Doesn't hold and doesn't seem to cover up at all. He needs to be more Shakur Stevenson and less Eric Morales when he gets hurt. I think he can still do well if his D gets better. He can be the Australian Arturo Gatti if wants to keep fighting the same way.
Don’t be that guy. You can’t beat Mendoza, Harrison, Horn, Hogan, etc if you are no good. You don’t have to reach ATG level in order to be a very good fighter. Tim Tszyu is and remains a very good fighter. A deeply flawed pugilist for sure, but still a very good one.
Tim Tszyu is pretty much a household name over here there was no talk in the media about Pacquiao or Usyk last weekend it was all about Tszyu. Kambosos Lopez was not even advertised over here it wasn't until Kambosos beat him that he started getting some attention. No Limit who promote Tszyu have a monopoly on Australia's biggest sports platform Foxtel so the likes of Opetaia who are signed with Matchroom don't even get as much attention as Nikita Tszyu.
Tim had a warrior heart and high confidence. But the fight against Murtazaliev ruined him. His punch resistance and confidence are not the same. Tim has been poorly managed from the moment that Thurman pulled out of their fight. His promotor cashed him out for 2 or 3 paydays.
The good news for Tim is that worst case he can still make a good living as a big fish in a small pond (figuratively) in Australia.
Yeah he will no doubt be offered 7 figures to fight Zerafa in a stadium somewhere in either Sydney or Melbourne.
Yeah a lot more publicity mate. Probably Mundine at his peak was the last bloke to get that hype and was similarly hyped on name than actual ability.
I thought originally he didn't have the chops to go as far as he has but the wins and dominant performances proved me wrong. He earned his right to have the support considering I used to think it was mostly a gimmick in the early stages. The Charlo/Canelo/Crawford thing was foolish. Sadly it's come crashing down pretty fast after years of solid work. I still believe threes a timeline where Timmy goes further. He is not **** as some are making out, I have watched his career closely and been to a tonne of the fights. With better decision making and a more open training, management he would make it higher. It seems Tszyu 2.0 have fumbled the last stage pretty bad. Tims thrown his boxing IQ out the window...
