I would like Laila to take a couple of warm up matches like Fury before she knocks out Claressa Shields.
This is being talked about again in 2025. Ali will be 18 or 19 years away from her last fight, if this actually happens. The are talking 15-20 Million US Dollars for Ali. https://www.badlefthook.com/2025/7/...pursing-fight-with-laila-ali-boxing-news-2025
My coworker and I were talking about this earlier today. Doubt it happens, but if it did, I’m team Ali all the way.
Sorry, I stopped taking you serious when you stated Shields would have walked through a prime Laila..... That statement alone makes this conversation nothing but comedy. Personally, I don't like seeing a woman who is now in her 40s and hasn't been in the ring in almost 20 years coming in to fight the most decorate female boxer in history in her prime years. I've met Shields twice. Once as an amateur and we cross paths a few years back when she came out to a camp one of my fighters was sparring in. Shield is far from a genuine individual personally, but very talented. To claim she would have walked through Laila even in her prime years.......did you not see Laila compete. I'm not talking about highlights...I'm talking about COMPETE..... Only woman I would give the edge over Laila in her prime is Wolfe. Laila is/was much bigger than Shields. Laila actually carries power while Shield normally gets the edge over her opponents through work rate, stamina, and 'mental aggression'......Nothing of that would be an advantage over a prime Laila who can box extremely well, has an IQ, and stamina was not an issue. This also without bringing up, Shields is naturally heavier than just about everyone she's face thus far in her career......What would she do to a woman she can't push backwards....... Now again, Laila retired in what '07 I think......She's also had a couple children during this time. I shouldn't have to point out what giving birth to a life does to the female body, not just the look but how it functions. I don't like it, but at this time..... Shields has zero options out here to push for a major payday. The most talented females in the sport today a much much smaller than Shields. That's like Bivol pushing for a fight with Tank Davis..... At the end of the day, I'll pay attention because it's Laila.....but I don't expect much from her in the ring with such a lay off and I refuse to give any credit to Shields for demanding a fight vs someone she should be paying her respect to every chance she gets rather than creating a beef because Laila made the comment "I don't see anyone worthy of me coming back to the ring" in an interview some years back..... The comment had nothing to do with Shields being that Shields wasn't a heavyweight.....the division that Laila competed in. And if Shields was listening to the whole interview, she would know that just before that comment, Laila gave her the ultimate praise for her accomplishments and what she was doing in and for the sport.
Excellent summation. I'd hate to see Laila back in the ring; could be another Jake Paul/Mike Tyson fiasco.
