Most limited ATG?

Wladimir isn't limited at all. He did become more conservative in his punch selection under Steward, but that's the result of perfecting a system of fighting that worked very well for him.

 

For me he was, but tbh i never liked hw division (except Tyson and Ali), so maybe my expectations are too high on hw fighters.

that isnt the only shortcoming of ali, dude was limited (no body punching, no proper hooks and uppercuts , no ability to lead (only counter) no proper inside fighting skills, he was a very limited boxer!

Most lighter weight fighters are better than heavyweights technically - Ali's still going to rank higher in most p4p lists than Floyd ever will.

Ali demonstrated a limited punch selection - up jab, corkscrew jab, flicking jab and heavier jumping jab off the left foot and then straight right, right cross and pull counter over the jab.

In the 60s, Ali shows a lead left hook, he jabs extremely well to the body followed by hook to the head - for anyone saying he didn't have an uppercut or a hook, tell that to Quarry as those are the two punches that ended the second fight. An Ali hook led to the stoppage of Bonavena who had a very good chin.

It is never the case that fighters don't know how to do something - more typically that it isn't in their comfort zone/not within their style or doesn't sit in with their mentality of fighting opponents. Ali had fundamentals, as did Roy Jones, as did almost every fighter that has stepped into a ring - the difference is how they choose to apply them.

Yes lighter weights are more skilled, yes floyd is more skilled but alis resume shits on floyd , skill isnt the end all be all, Gene tunney is a perfect fighter on film but you have fighters with less skill ( like henry armstrong) cuz their resumes are superior! Also ali didnt have a lead hook or uppercut hurting a guy isnt the only thing that qualifies as having a punch. In fact Ali got his ass dropped trying that shitty uppercut against joe frazier, and his hook was a slapping punch even if he ko'd a boxer with it . Ali had a jab and cross and that was it !

This obsession with "skills" or what some perceive as skills is the latest diversion from effectiveness. I hate to break the news to folks but fighting spirit, physicality, gas tank and durability are factors right up there with what many perceive as skills when it comes to greatness. And then the same folks miss the insanely high skill level in a fighter like Duran. It's as though there is some wizardry that can be cast and the same wizard will not be hit and will magically make his opponent disappear. This isn't D&D, folks.

 

Why would you say something so controversial yet so brave?
